Buddy Bench Dedication

A special ceremony was held at Lindsey Elementary School to dedicate a buddy bench on the fifth-grade playground in memory of classmate Madelyn Sukol. The bench captures things that Maddie enjoyed, including being outdoors and friendship, which is how the idea was developed. Two students in the Excel TECC Welding Program designed and built the bench, one being a West Geauga High School student. The beautiful bench offers a place to relax, reflect, show kindness and be a friend. Feel free to stop by the playground this summer to enjoy.

Noetic Math Contest

Some of the top math students at Lindsey Elementary and West Geauga Middle schools recently competed in the Noetic Learning Math Contest. The semiannual problem-solving contest consists of 20 creative math problems to be solved independently.

The spring session challenged over 39,000 students in grades 2-8 from 44 states nationwide. Of the 123 West Geauga students participating, 65 scored in the top 50th percentile, earning Noetic’s National Honorable Mention. Additionally, seven West Geauga students made it onto Noetic’s National Honor Roll, meaning they scored in the top 10 percent amongst all participants.

The students were recently recognized at the board of education meeting by Mrs. Morgano, West Geauga gifted coordinator and enrichment specialist. Congratulations to Alexander Cullis, Colm Dugan, Cole Wirick, Zachary Gracon, Julia Yutzy, Aedan Davidson and Freeland Southard.

Eighth-Grade Field Trip

Students in the eighth-grade class at West Geauga Middle School took a field trip to Washington, D.C., at the conclusion of the school year. The itinerary for the three-day, two-night trip was packed with visits to Gettysburg; World War II, Lincoln, Korean, Vietnam, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Franklin Delano Roosevelt memorials; Arlington Cemetery; Holocaust Museum; Capitol Hill; and Flight 93 Memorial, among other site-seeing opportunities. The guided stops provided students history lessons and experiences beyond the classroom.
