Students Go Ice Fishing

Preschool students at Chardon Early Learning Center spent the month of January exploring the fascinating process of how water freezes.

To put their learning to the test, they conducted an exciting “ice fishing” experiment to discover different ways to lift ice cubes using a single strand of yarn.

First, they placed the yarn on top of the ice cubes floating in a tray of water. Then, they sprinkled a small amount of salt over the ice. To their amazement, the salt caused the ice to refreeze around the yarn, allowing them to lift the cubes effortlessly.

The students were thrilled to see science in action as they experimented with this simple yet magical phenomenon.

Ohio Animal Study

First-grade classes at Munson Elementary recently welcomed a naturalist from the Geauga Park District for an engaging lesson on Ohio’s wildlife, past and present.

Students had the exciting opportunity to explore how Ohio’s animal populations have changed over the past century, examine animal pelts up close and ask insightful questions.

Thank you to the Geauga Park District for providing this hands-on learning experience.

100 Days of Learning

Kindergarten students in Mrs. Jenny Maheu’s class celebrated their 100th day of learning with some tasty activities.

They celebrated by seeing if they could get to the center of a Tootsie Pop in the 100 licks. They tallied and counted to 100 while tasting. Another activity included counting and eating 100 pieces of popcorn.
