Geauga Park District Executive Director John Oros gave updates on several ongoing and completed projects across the park system July 21, highlighting recent improvements.
One major project currently underway is the replacement of the bridge at The West Woods in Russell Township, Oros said during the GPD Board of Commissioners regular meeting.
The old steel bridge has been removed and construction of a new bridge is progressing smoothly, he told the audience and park commissioners, as he presented photos of the work.
“The concrete abutments have been poured, so that project is moving along nicely with (the) help of (the Ohio Department of Transportation),” he said.
While construction continues, visitors can access The West Woods by using the upper parking lot near state Route 87, according to GPD.
Big Creek Park in Chardon got a new lean-to, which was done by GPD’s in-house construction crew, Oros said.
The lean-to provides a rustic overnight option for campers, he added.
“They are definitely a jack of the race,” Oros said, praising the construction crew’s work. “They did a wonderful job on the masonry structure. The chimney … is now completed. So, (we are) giving our residents somewhere else to camp here at Big Creek Park.”
Oros also gave an update on the second treehouse going in at Big Creek Park.
“So, (a) beautiful overlook (and) once again, another project by our in-house construction group,” he added.
More information about these and other projects can be found on GPD’s website and social media channels.
