Vet Visits Science Classes
Science is a vital part of many career paths, including veterinary medicine. Dr. Jennifer Kartley visited all sixth-grade science classrooms at Berkshire Middle School during the week of Thanksgiving and taught students about the daily use of scientific knowledge in her practice at Aurora Veterinary Clinic.
Kartley brought her dog, Reese, to teach the students about the application of science concepts in her career field. Kartley and an assistant from her veterinary practice drew blood from Reese and used a centrifuge to separate blood into distinct components and layers based on its density. Students enjoyed getting to know Reese and learning about the responsibilities of raising and training a dog.
Kartley was welcomed into the building by her daughter Natalie, a sixth-grader. Middle school teacher Liza Warner coordinating the educational visit.
Thanksgiving Give Back Project
Berkshire Local School District’s administrative team successfully completed its annual Thanksgiving Give Back Project during the last week of November, providing meals and support to 24 local families through a strong and coordinated community partnership.
This year’s effort brought together several organizations whose generosity made the project possible. Claridon Congregational Church graciously provided the space for meal assembly, while Claridon Community Helps supplied food containers and gathered donations for a portion of the meal items. The Burton/Middlefield Rotary contributed funds to purchase the remaining food needed and delivered the completed meals directly to families.
Berkshire is grateful for the ongoing support of Judi Maloney, of Claridon Community Helps, which plays a key role in making the annual outreach effort successful.
“We are incredibly proud of the way our community comes together each year to support families during the holiday season,” said the Berkshire administrative team. “This project reflects the heart of Berkshire – service, partnership and care for our neighbors.”
The district extends its sincere appreciation to all partners, volunteers and supporters who helped bring warmth and nourishment to families this Thanksgiving season.
