Reading Buddies

Some of Chagrin Falls Intermediate School’s sixth-graders visited Justin Wise’s first-grade class at Gurney Elementary for a special reading of “The Rainbow Fish” followed by a colorful art project. The experience gave sixth-graders a chance to shine as peer leaders, while the first-graders enjoyed learning alongside older students they look up to.

School counselor Annie Schluep brought the partnership to life and created the meaningful learning moment for everyone involved.

CFMS Students of the Month

The mission of the Chagrin Falls Middle School Students of the Month is to acknowledge and reward students for exemplary performance. The students depict Tiger Techniques: Think, Integrity, Grit, Effort and Responsibility. Each month, the seventh and eighth-grade teams collaborate and choose a male and female “Tiger of the Month” and the students receive tiger water bottles from the PTO.

Students of the Month for November are eighth-graders Morgan Fetzner and Kenneth Kang and seventh-graders Brooke Angle and Quentin Howell.

RecHess Brings Strategic Fun to CFMS

Thanks to a Chagrin Falls Middle School PTO grant, lunchtime has taken on a new dimension of excitement with the launch of “recHess” — a weekly chess tournament that combines recess with competitive strategy.

Each week, middle school students gather for friendly yet fierce matches, using PTO-funded chess sets and timers to test their skills against peers. The program has created a supportive environment where students learn new strategies from one another while building connections across grade levels.

“The energy is high” during these weekly tournaments, which have quickly become a student favorite. The PTO’s investment in chess sets, timers and prizes has transformed a simple game into one of the week’s most anticipated events.
