Patrick Dowling, a Hiram man accused of stealing an ambulance from University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, pleaded guilty to multiple charges in the Geauga County Court of Common Pleas on Jan. 21.

Last year, Dowling was charged with two fourth-degree felonies — grand theft of a motor vehicle and disrupting public service — two first-degree misdemeanors for operating a vehicle under the influence; and one minor misdemeanor for operating a vehicle without a license.

The charges stem from an October incident in which Dowling allegedly drove off from the hospital while intoxicated in a Community Care ambulance in an attempt to drive himself home.

According to the court docket, Dowling was ordered in December to complete the treatment program at Concord Pines, a residential facility operated by Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers.

At the January hearing, Dowling pleaded guilty to grand theft of a motor vehicle and one count of operating a vehicle under the influence, according to court filings, which state the remaining counts will be dismissed at his sentencing, scheduled for March 19.
