Auburn Students Earn FCCLA Honors

Students from Auburn Career Center earned top honors at the Ohio Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference, capturing multiple state championship titles and advancing several students to national competition.

Representing Auburn’s Culinary Arts and Architecture Project Management programs, students competed against peers from across Ohio.

State placers were: Garde Manger — first place, Farishta Niehus, Culinary Arts, homeschooled; Product Development — second place, Brandon Congin, Madison High School, and Cristian Mendoza, Fairport Harbor Schools; and Fashion Design — third place, Alana Burgess, Riverside Local Schools.

Students advancing to nationals included: Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation — first place, Addysen Olsen and Mimi Daina, both Riverside Local Schools; Interior Design — first place, Bohdi Betteley, Fairport Harbor Schools, Aallyah Barbee, Cardinal Local School District, and Clair Corbett, homeschooled; and Job Interview — second place, Madison French, Cardinal Local School District.

“This level of success is truly remarkable,” said Dr. Joe Glavan, superintendent of Auburn Career Center. “Seeing our students earn multiple state championships in a single year speaks to their talent and the dedication of our staff. These experiences are preparing students for real careers and we couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments.”

Culinary Arts instructor Amy Ryan added, “Our students have worked incredibly hard to reach this level. Their creativity, technical skill and professionalism were on full display at the state competition. Watching them succeed—and now advance to nationals—is an exciting moment for our entire program.”

Students who earned qualifying placements will advance to the FCCLA National Leadership Conference July 6–10 in Washington, D.C., where they will compete against top students from across the country.
