Founders Day Celebration
Burton’s annual Founders Day Celebration will be held June 23 from 3-5 p.m. in the Burton Village Park. The celebration will honor individuals who have served the community and recognize people and organizations that have promoted preservation in the village. Refreshments will be served.
PERI #86 Meeting
Geauga County OPERS retirees are invited to join PERI #86, an organization that supports the retirement system and benefits.
The group meets at 11 a.m. every other month on the fourth Wednesday of the month. The next meeting is June 26 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chardon.
The speaker will be Kathy Hanratty, landscape architect and environment enthusiast. Lunch is $10 payable at the door.

Huntsburg Grange Concerts
Huntsburg Grange 2541 concerts in the bandstand begin with the Boys Are Back on June 29 at 6 p.m. Pinky Rummel from Blossom Hill will serve her first place chili from the Grange Chili Cook-Off. There will also be a cakewalk and raffle. Bring a lawn chair.
The dedication of the June Strong Thurling memorial garden will be held before the concert at 5 p.m. at the garden located on the corner of state routes 528 and 322 at the flagpole.
Food Pantry Open
The food pantry at Chester Christian Center A/G church will be open to the community on June 28 from 10 a.m. to noon. The pantry is open to anyone in need of food; one does not need to be a member of the church.

BMR Motorcycle Ride For Veterans Scheduled
Burton-Middlefield Rotary is sponsoring the eighth annual Rotary Ride on June 30, departing Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton at 10 a.m. Sheriff Dan McClelland and his dog Midge will lead participants on a two hour trek through scenic Geauga County.
Registration opens at 8 a.m. and the $25 per motorcycle fee includes breakfast. Onsite food vendor and other fun activities will be available upon return to the fairgrounds.
Registration and sponsorship information can be found at www.bmrmotorcyclerun.com. Proceeds benefit Geauga County veterans who qualify with home repairs and renovations.
The Rotary invites veterans in need of home improvements to explain their situation and submit requests to Burton-Middlefield Rotary Ride, P.O. Box 516, Burton, OH 44021. Family and friends may also nominate veterans in need.
Ice Cream Social June 27
The Geauga County Farm Bureau has set its annual Ice Cream Social for 6 p.m. June 27 at Hastings Dairy, 13181 Claridon Troy Road, Burton.
This event is for Geauga County Farm Bureau members.

Free Airplane Rides, Pancakes
Area youth ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on June 22 as Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 5 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at the annual Wheels and Wings event at Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield.
The rally is part of the EAA Young Eagles Program, created to interest young people in aviation. Pilots at the event will also explain more about their airplanes allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight.
Following the flight, each participant will receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle and their name will be entered into the Worlds Largest Logbook.
There will also be a pancake breakfast with eggs, sausage, bacon and beverages that will be served from 711 a.m. Plan to fly in or drive in to see aircraft and cars.
Community Garage Sale
The second annual Montville Community Garage Sale will be held June 29, rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Montville Community Center, 9755 Madison Road. Several families will be participating with a variety of items. Refreshments will be available for sale.

Youth Summer Jam
The Chardon Annual Summer Jam will take place at the bandstand on Chardon Square June 22 from 1-9 p.m. Sponsored by the Chardon Community Action Team, the event is held each year to provide musical acts of all genres an opportunity to perform. For more information call 440-286-8481.
Help Me Grow Giveaway
The Geauga County Help Me Grow Program is holding its annual childrens clothing and toy giveaway June 21 at the Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road in Chesterland. All Geauga families are invited to attend the free event from 10 a.m. to noon.
Donations of gently used childrens clothing and toys will be accepted from June 17-19. Stuffed animals, cribs and car seats cannot be accepted.

Conservative Forum to Meet

Chicken and Duck Dinner
DTJ Taborville is having a chicken and duck dinner June 25 from noon to 2 p.m. Cost is $12 for an adult dinner and $6 for a childrens chicken dinner. A half duck dinner is $17. Dinner includes dumplings, sauerkraut, a homemade doughnut and coffee.
Czech beers are available at the bar. Edward Spondike will provide music from 12:30-3:30 p.m.

Rummage Sale in Kirtland
Divine Word Church is holding a rummage sale at 8100 Eagle Road in Kirtland. Sale takes place July 11 and 12 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and July 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations of clean clothing and small household items may be brought to lower level of church July 1-9.

Vendor Spaces Available at “Tree-mendous” Flea Market
Booth spaces are still available at the annual “Treasures Among the Trees” flea market being held on July 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The West Woods picnic area, 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township. Dozens of vendors will be selling antiques, collectibles, birdhouses, jewelry, toys, furniture, rugs, plants and more. Food will also be available for sale. Geauga People for Parks will host a booth, selling a great variety of donated items including artwork and household items.
All proceeds go to support Geauga People for Parks, a volunteer political action group that supports the Geauga Park District.

The annual St. Mark Lutheran Church This n That rummage sale will be held at the church on Sept. 7 from 3-7 p.m. and Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
