The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriffs Office Jan. 4-10. In total, the sheriffs office handled 351 calls during this seven-day period.

Animal Abuse

Jan. 10

10:09 a.m., Heath Road, Newbury. Someone shot my buddys dog. He is out of town. There are footprints. Dog is at the vet and was definitely shot. Deputies advised. Dog warden said they would contact humane society, which said it would investigate matter. Case transferred to humane society. Cedar Road resident said they did shoot the dog. It attacked their dog on their property. Their dog has a broken leg as a result. He states this is an ongoing issue and that is why his wife carries a gun.

Animal Problem

Jan. 6

6:12 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Caller passed farm on the right just past the Circle K. He states there appears to be a cow staked to the ground for the past few days and would like it checked on. The cow is fine. Owner of animal and property had just left after checking on it and feeding it. He stated the cow is being stubborn and does not want to leave the area. He continuously checks on the cow and will continue to do so until he can get it moved to the pasture across the street with the other cows.

Citizen Assist

Jan. 7

12:57 p.m., Ravenna Road, Munson. Advised of male possibly having trouble on the ice at Walter Best Park. Males are ice fishing and not in distress.

Domestic Violence

Jan. 7

10:09 a.m., Hillcrest Avenue, Middlefield. Boyfriend hit me. Female is crying. Male is still on scene. Female is walking down the street now. He is still at the house. Not injured. No weapons or alcohol today. No drugs. Cops were called before for him drinking. Have the male. Deputy will be transporting.

Extra Patrol

Jan. 4

5:36 p.m., Main Market Road, Troy. The Parkman and Troy snowmobile trails are private trails. Recently, there have been a lot of land owner complaints to the Parkman Snow Mobile Club that there are people riding where they shouldnt be. It is believed these persons may not have permission to be there and may be from the Renegade group. Tonight around 8 p.m. the Parkman and Troy groups are going to set up check points at The House of Nagy and the Troy Community Center to make sure everyone is authorized to be riding there. They will drive for couple hours and then probably go back out and check more around 11 p.m. or midnight. They are just requesting a deputy to be aware and in the area if possible in case they need assistance.

Jan. 7

5:02 p.m, Washington Street, Auburn. Township trustee requesting extra patrol in the area of Auburn Administration Building around 7:30 p.m. due to some possible issues that two residents may cause. They have been videotaping residents at this meeting and township is enacting a policy for no videotaping. Caller is concerned the residents may get upset and they have been disruptive at recent meetings. Caller does not want deputy to come in the meeting, just in the area, and will call if needed.

Suspicious

Jan. 4

2:49 p.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. After male subject was arrested there has been talk of ex-girlfriends boyfriend coming to shoot the business up. Caller would like to speak with deputy about this concern. Advised employer to contact sheriffs office for anything suspicious. Advised to tell employees to keep aware also.

3:29 p.m., Huntley Road, Huntsburg. Logsplitter positively identified by owner. Released to owner.

Threatening

Jan. 9

11:30 p.m., Kinsman Road, Middlefield. States that a person has a contract on the callers life. Caller is in the back trailer and woman is in the front trailer. Caller would like to see an officer. Subject denied making threats and was advised. Complainant also was given advice and information about CPO.

Trespassing

Jan. 5

3:32 p.m., Tudor Place, Hambden. Caller has posted no trespassing signs because of snowmobiles going in his yard. Today again there were five snowmobiles and would like to file a report. Unable to locate snowmobiles. Advice given to caller about making it difficult for them to access property.
