A Chardon man has been sentenced to more than nine years in federal prison after pleading guilty to receiving and distributing child sexual abuse materials online.

Jeffrey A. Williams, 50, was sentenced to 110 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Patricia A. Gaughan of the Northern District of Ohio, according to a May 13 press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio. Williams, who pleaded guilty in January, was also ordered to serve 15 years of supervised release following his imprisonment and to pay $184,000 in restitution to victims.

According to the press release and court documents, Williams knowingly received and distributed child sexual abuse materials from approximately November 2022 through February 2024. He served as a moderator and active participant in online groups dedicated to sharing the materials and discussing the sexual abuse of children. In his role as moderator, Williams acted as a gatekeeper to more than 50 chat groups, requiring prospective members to submit child sexual abuse files before gaining access.

A search warrant executed on his electronic devices yielded more than 5,300 images and videos of child sexual abuse material. Approximately 80 videos exceeded 15 minutes in length, with two running longer than one hour. The collection included imagery depicting the sexual abuse of infants and the torture and rape of pre-pubescent children.

The FBI Cleveland Division led the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer King prosecuted the case on behalf of the Northern District of Ohio.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. More information about the program is available at justice.gov/PSC.
