Summer Internship Selections
The Cleveland Clinic’s Office of Civic Education Initiatives has selected four NDCL students for the Clinic’s prestigious summer internship program.
Congratulations to sophomores Emily Hyslop, science intern; Brady Kaucic, science intern; Rorey Smith, radiology intern; and junior Matthew Tavares, science intern.
The Clinic’s intensive, paid internships provide top students throughout northeastern Ohio with the opportunity to work and learn alongside nationally renowned healthcare professionals in a variety of fields. At the end of the program, students present scientific research or creative projects that they produce during their internship experiences.
Research Alliance Program
NDCL sophomore Olajire “Drey” Awosika was selected to participate in The Northeast Ohio Research Education Medicine Alliance (NEOREMA) this summer. As a collaborative initiative between Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland State University, Cuyahoga Community College, Kent State University, and Oberlin College, NEOREMA provides a wide range of enrichment opportunities for students with demonstrated interests in becoming physicians, researchers or other allied health professionals.
400th Career Victory For Coach
Congratulations to NDCL baseball coach Jim Clark on achieving his 400th career victory, when the Lions defeated the Padua Bruins on Tuesday. In the 14-0 victory, sophomore Ryan Falls threw a no-hitter, striking out 14 batters.
Clark guided the Lions to Division II state titles in 2001 and 2009.
So. Korean Guests Welcomed
NDCL hosted five business professionals visiting from South Korea on April 8. The guests were chosen to participate in The Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange (GSE) program with the purpose of promoting international understanding.
Their month long exchange was sponsored by Northern Ohio’s Rotary District #6630 which includes Geauga, Akron-Medina, Cleveland and Lorain. Junior Jiyea Um, NDCL’s exchange student from South Korea, along with NDCL juniors Erin Berschig, Joseph Cermak, Carly Kline, Jonathan Malish, Michalena Mezzopera and Alec Stewart accompanied the visitors.
“Kick” Pediatric Cancer Event
Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin and Notre Dame Elementary School students will once again partner to help to kick pediatric cancer by holding its second annual Kick-It game on April 29 from 3:15-6:30 p.m. at NDCL’s Lozick Field at Lion Stadium.
Founded by a 10-year old boy with cancer, Kick-It is an opportunity for students to support their classmate and make a difference in their community. Students collect donations with classmates and have a friendly competition with other classrooms to raise money. To celebrate, the students will play kickball. The afternoon will be filled with games, food, and crafts for all ages.
Last year, the first Kick-It event brought hundreds of students from kindergarten through 12th grade to support the schools’ mission in solidarity. Together, the schools raised over $7,500 for pediatric cancer.
