National Merit Recognition
Based upon his outstanding performance on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) last October, senior Joseph Cermak has been named a National Merit semifinalist. Fewer than 1 percent of the nation’s high school seniors qualify for this prestigious distinction.
“Joe’s achievement reflects his many intellectual gifts, especially as he has developed these gifts in our college preparatory curriculum,” said Principal Joseph A. Waler. “We are all so very proud of him.”
Joseph will now compete for finalist status in the National Merit Program by submitting a comprehensive application documenting his academic achievements. Finalists are eligible for scholarships sponsored by the National Merit Program as well as by businesses and colleges throughout the country.
Into The Light Walk
NDCL’s Social Justice Club team will walk together for the Suicide Prevention Education Alliance’s 10th annual Into the Light Walk on Oct. 6 at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The 1.5-mile walk starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. The event aims to raise awareness and money to prevent teen suicide and “shine the light” on depression.
Last year, NDCL’s team had 40 walkers and raised nearly $2,000, finishing in third place in funds raised. The goal for 2013 is to surpass last year’s total and make it to number 1.
Students, faculty, parents and alumni are invited to join Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin’s team. Register online www.spea.donorpages.com/walk/ and click “Join this Team.”
Donations are also welcome from those who are unable to join the team but would still like to support the walk.
Bloodmobile At NDCL Sept. 27
NDCL’s first Red Cross blood drive of the year will occur Sept. 27 in the Baker gym. The Red Cross encourages all healthy persons who are at least 16 years old and who weigh at least 100 pounds to donate. Sixteen-year-olds need a signed parental permission form to donate.
Parents and other relatives who wish to donate blood should feel free to come to school at their convenience during the school day on Friday.
Visit ndcl.org to register as a donor.
