Geauga Beef and Swine 4-H Club had a meeting May 18. A member of the Junior Fair Ambassador program spoke to the group about becoming an ambassador and explaining that speaking to buyers about what the club does will help them understand why they should come to the livestock sale and buy the club’s products.
The Junior Fair Livestock Ambassador program will meet once a month starting in May. Contact Todd Montazzoli at 440-387-2435 if interested.
The livestock sale for small animals starts at 2:30 p.m. and the large animals livestock sale starts at 5 p.m. At the Junior Fair meeting, they counted ribbons. Members had tagged all their pigs and turned in pictures with their pigs and tag numbers visible.
Everyone in the club completed quality assurance for 2014. There were no nominations for king and queen. Members decided to donate cheese to the food table. They talked about looking for buyer gifts for eight pigs and two steer. Members need to decorate the pig barn to fit this year’s theme, “The Feed Pale to the Livestock Sale.”
Four-H night at the Captains baseball game is June 20. The Captains are playing the Bowling Green Hotrods. Tickets are $9 and food vouchers are $6.
Club members have cleanup at the fairgrounds on June 14 at 4 p.m. They will clean the fairgrounds, have a meeting and have a potluck dinner.
Project judging is July 19 at 9 a.m. Ten buyer letters are needed by the July meeting with stamps on the envelopes, but not sealed. The club also needs a clean 4×6 photo of its pigs with the members by the July meeting.
The club voted on a new secretary and elected Haley Frank. Members are also selling candy bars for $1. The next meeting is June 14 at the Geauga County Fairgrounds. (Submitted)
