The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Sept. 26 through Oct. 2. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 432 calls during this seven-day period.

CITIZEN ASSIST

Sept. 30

12:03 a.m., Evergreen Drive, Burton. Caller smells what he believes are skunks that are on fire. He would like for an officer to check the area because he doesn’t believe it is a normal skunk smell. Deputy checked the area; nothing unusual noted.

DRUGS/ALCOHOL

Oct. 1

5:32 p.m., Auburn Road,?Newbury. A deputy received a call about three boys who are in the parking lot smoking pot. They are in a red pickup and white sedan. They are on the elementary side, north side by the soccer fields where the caller is about to hold a practice for younger children. Deputy advised. Juveniles had been smoking cigarettes prior to my arrival.

INTOXicated PERSON

Sept. 27

1:56 a.m., Bass Lake, Newbury. Male states he is intoxicated and walking down the road. He called to get a ride home. The subject called dispatch requesting a ride home. Subject was advised we would not take him home and was given the option to call a sober person to come pick him up or go to jail. Subject called his mother who came out to pick him up.

JUVENILE PROBLEM

Sept. 30

3:02 p.m., View Drive, Newbury. There was a problem at Newbury Schools today. A 10-year-old male was searched for drugs without permis-sion from his mother or her husband. The nurse physically picked him up and removed him from the table. The principal was unaware of the entire situation. Trooper advised. Complain-ant will contact the principal tomor-row to get further information about the incident. Complainant was upset that her 10-year-old son was searched in school for drugs.

SUSPICIOUS

Sept. 27

12:31 p.m., Taylor Wells Road, Claridon. A father found a dead dog at son’s residence. He believes it was struck and killed at the dog house, then disconnected from the lead and drug. There is blood by the dog house and you can see the trail where it was pulled to. Deputy took report and photos.

Sept. 28

12:16 a.m., Swine Creek, Parkman. Caller states he was driving his buggy home roughly half an hour ago and he was followed by a small car that was shooting paintballs at them. Unknown make or model. Deputy spoke with complainant, who advised he heard what sounded like a paintball gun being shot towards his buggy. Neither the buggy nor the complainants were struck. Checked the area and was unable to locate any evidence from a paintball gun. No vehicles were seen in the area.

Oct. 1

6:09 p.m., Burton Windsor Road, Burton. Male on a bicycle wearing an orange vest carrying a gun riding down Station Road to the end. Original caller believes the male is possibly disabled and should not have a gun. Subject checks OK; valid hunting license and orange vest.

THEFT

Sept. 30

1:58 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Several air and power tools taken from above. Complainant and owner of business are both missing tools. Deputy spoke with complainant. He advised he had a few people in mind who would have taken his tools. He is putting a list together of tools that are missing and will report back to me.
