The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Oct. 3-9. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 329 calls during this seven-day period.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Oct. 8
7:09 a.m., Leader Lane, Hambden. There is a dog in the trailer with no power. The caller said it howls all the time. The lady is staying at a different trailer because there is no power. The caller thinks no one is feeding or walking the dog. Deputy responded and advised the owner of the complainant. She advised the dog was being taken care of and the dog was just returned to the home about 40 minutes ago. She admitted the power was out and she was working on getting the power turned on again. No further action appeared necessary.
CITIZEN’S DISPUTE
Oct. 7
8:27 p.m., Madison Road, Parkman Township. Caller advised she is missing a gun she kept in her basement. Caller believes her roommates who just moved took it when they left. Caller advised deputies were on scene when they moved out, and again the night after that for vandalism to the inside of the residence. Roommates are texting her stating the gun is in the home and they do not have it.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
Oct. 4
11:25 a.m., Auburn Road, Munson. Grandkids are out of control, 11-years-old on down. There are five kids and they are breaking furniture. Just mother and five kids here. Static on the line now. Deputy advised. Male was unhappy with the children breaking chairs and acting up. Homeowner served daughter with eviction notice. Both parties were advised to keep the peace.
Oct. 7
12:45 a.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Across the street there is a loud domestic dispute. Caller says there is a lot of yelling and now there is banging and they are beeping the horn. Possible two males. This has been going on for the past 20-30 minutes. Deputy advised. Argument only; no violence nor threats of violence. Both parties agreed that they have been loud. They will take things inside and will get along for the remainder of the night.
DRUGS/ALCOHOL
Oct. 3
5:38 p.m., Madison Road, Parkman. Two people are in the caller’s home doing drugs. The dog has been removed and the caller is at the BP in Parkman. Caller said that it is marijuana and they do not need a squad. Caller is giving us permission to go into the house through the deck at the back of the house. Go threw the kitchen. They are in the bedroom, off the living room by the couch. Do not go past the rebel flag. Caller does not want them back on the property.
EXTRA PATROL
Oct. 3
8:09 a.m., Colchester Drive, Auburn. On Sept. 26, at approximately 5 p.m., two white males in their 20’s driving a tan van with Rite Cleaners on the side, walked into her yard and up to her 7-year-old daughter with a big dry cleaning bag. When the caller came out of the house she felt very uneasy and advised them to leave. They advised her they were starting a new dry cleaning business and wanted to know if her husband needed dry cleaning done. She advised them to leave the property and took her daughter inside. She googled the company and there is one in Cleveland. Her mother advised her to contact sheriff. Caller advised to call immediately if anything happens.
ILLEGAL BURNING
Oct. 6
4:24 p.m., Munn Road, Newbury. Large open burn; barn was torn down and set on fire with gas. Anonymous neighbor advised their neighbor tore down a barn, poured gasoline on it and set it on fire. Homeowner advised they did not have a permit.
JUVENILE PROBLEM
Oct. 5
10:37 p.m., Nash Road, Parkman. There are kids on Tavern Road hiding in a cornfield. The kids are putting a head lamp into the road and have a string attached to it. When the driver got out to check on it, they pull the head lamp back into the weeds. This is on Tavern between Nash and Patch Road. The kids are on the east side of the road in a cornfield. Deputy checked the area and was unable to locate the juveniles.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
Oct. 5
9:23 a.m., Quail Woods Drive, Chardon. Mailbox was found laying in the ditch; it appears that a passing vehicle struck it during the overnight hours. Deputy arrived on scene and found that a vehicle drove off the left side of the roadway and struck the mailbox sometime last night. I searched the area for the vehicle or any other damage; unable to locate. Nothing further was requested by the complainant.
TRAFFIC CRASH
Oct. 9
11:52 a.m., Ravenna Road, Auburn. Report of wires down on top of a pickup truck. Wires were taken down by a cement truck pulling into a driveway. The complainant is inside the vehicle. He is uninjured. Advised to stay inside the vehicle. Deputy responded. Two trucks, one vehicle took poles and live wires down across both trucks. There are live wires on both vehicles on the scene. Ohio State Highway Patrol is requesting traffic control north of the accident. All vehicles involved are cleared of hazards.
