The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Oct. 10 through Oct. 16. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 363 calls during this seven-day period.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

October 15

11:33 a.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. A dog, German Shepherd mix, just left its owner and is chasing vehicles at the intersection of Aquilla Road and Mayfield Road. The dog has almost caused several accidents. It has been aggressive to the caller in the past. Dog is now rolling around in the middle of the roadway. Deputy responded. Male had no idea dog was loose and was brought back into the house. Male was extremely angry that law enforcement was on scene to ensure dog was secure. Male stated “isn’t this something the dog warden comes out for not the cops.” It was explained to the male that the dog nearly caused multiple crashes, which, therefore, warranted law enforcement response. Male still angry, slamming door on deputy.

ASSAULT

October 13

4:57 p.m., Chillicothe Road, Russel. A 17-year-old female was assaulted at an unknown location. Her parents are there with her. The assault occurred a few days ago but she does have several facial fractures and the parents did not want to report it. Deputy responded. Assault occurred in Russell Township, Russell was advised. Russell asked that we request the mother and the juvenile respond to their station upon release from the ER. Russell PD advised they would not come to the ER. Deputy passed this information on to the mother and victim.

BURGLARY

October 11

11:01 a.m., Main St., Parkman. Caller owns a rental property and was going to work on it and realized someone broke in through the basement window and stole about 5 feet of copper pipe. They also tried to break into apartments that are attached. Report taken.

October 14

6:33 a.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Store was broken into during the overnight hours with forced entry through a front broken window. The cash register is missing. Newbury Meats has a broken window as well but the caller is not certain if anything was taken. Shop owner will be waiting outside. Report Taken.

DISORDERLY

October 11

3:19 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Newbury. Caller is in a driveway on Bass Lake between Butternut and Pekin almost in the middle. Caller states he pulled into the house to drop a friend off at his house and the neighbor came out and smashed out one of his driver’s window. Caller states he can’t remember her name, she did just leave northbound on Bass Lake in a Maroon Chevy Cobalt with a friend. Caller advised this is a dispute over that female’s boyfriend using drugs. The caller states the boyfriend blamed him over the drugs. Deputy unable to locate vehicle. The male agreed to accept restitution for the broken window.

SUSPICIOUS

October 10

11:14 p.m., Newcomb Road, Middlefield. Several kids walking down the road with beer cases. They are parked at the ice coolers, north of Shedd and they were yelling at the buggys. Deputy responded. There were several Amish citizens walking down the road. The 21-year-old was in possession of alcohol. They were advised to go home. They complied.

October 12

1:57 p.m., Washington St., Auburn. Several arrows found on property, sticking up straight out of the ground, no one here shoots arrows. The driveway is off of Auburn by the old school. Deputy responded. Four arrows placed in the outfield in a straight line. The kids possibly were using them as markers. The arrows had no points to them.

October 15

11:18 a.m., Thorpe Road, Auburn. Female states she had applied for a nursing position at Timmons Elementary. Last night she got a call from an unknown individual stating he wanted to meet her in the parking lot. She was afraid and did not go. Now would like to make a report. Deputy advised. Complainant had two messages on the answering machine from the school board regarding a nurse position starting Friday. Caller was confused on the messages that were left. No cause, complainant advised.

October 16

11:26 p.m., Jug Road, Hoover. Suspicious male wearing all dark clothing on Jug Road near Hoover walking toward Grove. White male possibly in his 40’s. Female is house sitting and just said it made her nervous because people are not usually out in that area this late. Deputy unable to locate male.

TRAFFIC HAZARD

October 14

8:39 a.m., Taylor Wells Road, Claridon. Mud reported all over the road from Dairy Farm. The rain yesterday made the road with mud like ice. It is a recurring problem. Complainant would like the owner of the farm advised to clean up the road. Deputy responded. No substantial build up of dirt/mud on roadway. Will advise county highway to look and see if they think it needs to be addressed. Deputy spoke to the Road Depart-ment. They will take a look at it but the owner of the farm has been advised multiple times and feels he needs to be cited next time. The farm does have a pick up with a plow to clean up but that can make the road slick.

VANDALISM

October 12

6:48 p.m., Wisner Road, Chardon. Caller advised a vacant house at the end of his street was vandalized. Deputy was to meet with the caller and he will point out the house. Deputy responded. Numerous windows and doors damaged. Cans of paint dumped in various parts of the house. Unable to secure the home. Unable to locate information to who the property owner is. Document only at this time.

WELFARE CHECK

October 10

11:02 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. The caller is concerned about her elderly neighbor. The neighbor’s dog has been barking for a few hours and the dog does not normally bark. The elderly female is homebound, in a wheelchair, on oxygen, and obese. The complainant would like to speak with a deputy after they check on the neighbor. Deputy checked inside and outside. She appears to not be home. Complainant advised.
