Fall Family Fest
St. Mary School PTU hosted the Fall Family Fest at Patterson’s Farm. Families enjoyed a chili cook-off, hayrides, costume contest, pumpkin painting and more. The event helps bring families together to celebrate time outside of school and was attended by more than 200 people.
Beacons of Light
Three years ago the Beacon of Light group was formed in an effort to introduce St. Mary junior high students to a variety of service opportunities. The group’s goal is to provide service to the school, community and parish, along with one additional global project per year.
Past projects have included feeding the homeless, dancing in a flash mob at the Tolerance Fair and sending shoeboxes of gifts to children in Third World countries just to name a few. This year, the group has raked leaves for seniors and is planning to cook meals for Project Hope.
The students meet after school to select the service opportunities they are most interested in and to plan upcoming events. During the meetings, they are challenged to let their light shine to others in everyday ways as well. Organizer Lisa Baitt challenged the students this month to greet and acknowledge others first, especially adults.
Student member Andrea Diaz-Rodriguez said, “The club is fun and gives us ways to serve. I plan to continue on in service groups when I go to high school.”
The Beacon of Light group helps to grow students into service leaders not only in junior high, but also throughout their entire lives.
Early Childhood Expo
St. Mary School will hold an early childhood expo on Nov. 12 from 6:30-8 p.m. Elsa from Frozen will be available for pictures and visits, and teachers from the preschool and kindergarten programs will have hands-on activities available for the kids at the free family event.
