Veterans Day Speaker

Eighth-graders recently had the opportunity to hear local World War II veteran John Sudyk speak as a capstone to a multi-disciplinary Veteran’s Day Unit. Sudyk, a Huntsburg resident, is a friend of eighth-grade math teacher Melody Barber.

Sudky shared his experiences at D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge and the Liberation of France.

The students are to be commended for the respectful manner in which they listened to Mr. Sudyk share his amazing story and are appreciative of his service to our nation and his bravery in defending our freedom.

Students had been working on Veterans Day themed essays in Mrs. Robinson’s language arts class and learning background information in Mr. Kruse’s social studies class. The essays were submitted to the local VFW as part of a national essay contest.

Tyson Sinclair, whose father is in the service, was selected to read his essay to the entire student body.

Pumpkin Drop

Cardinal Intermediate School third-graders spent the week with a pumpkin as a math friend. Students estimated and measured their pumpkin for height, weight and circumference.

Students even found out how many pumpkins high they were.

As a culminating science activity, students guessed which of three pumpkins would fall fastest if dropped out of a window. To the students’ delight, the pumpkins named Sir, It’saac and Newton were dropped out the window.

They landed with a big splat and students declared it a tie.
