Students Play FETCH!
St. Mary students recently worked together to create a budgeting system during the FETCH program. FETCH! stands for Financial Education Teaches Children Healthy Habits. It was created by The Ohio CPA Foundation to teach kids basic financial literacy concepts now, so they can better manage their money later in life.
FETCH! is a fun, interactive board game that teaches children in fifth and sixth grades about the importance of budgeting, saving and spending. Students form competitive teams for an adventure through a dog park where they must purchase items for their dog and save as much money as possible, while encountering a mixture of risks and rewards along the way.
Science Olympiad Success
St. Mary School Science Olympiad team was not intimidated when matched with teams of larger number and schools nearly double their size. Together they marched to a third place overall finish in the varsity division at St. Ignatius Invitational held last weekend.
Parent Kelly Morano said, “Our school, while small in size, finished very big. We are proud of them all!”
The St. Mary team was made up of 13 students in grades six through eight, each who dedicated time before school, after school and during his or her X period to prepare for the competition. The students competed in all of the events including bridge building, air trajectory, anatomy, bio-process lab, meteorology, solar systems, simple machines, write it do it, picture this, fossils, can’t judge a powder and wheeled vehicle.
Principal Mary Petelin said, “I’m very proud of the efforts of our students, volunteers and teachers. It’s a tremendous commitment of time and energy to become proficient in each category and to obtain such a high placing finish.”
