The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Dec. 12-18. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 256 calls during this seven-day period.

ANIMAL ABUSE

Dec. 12

1:56 p.m., Nicki Lane, Hambden. Caller said she believes the residents at this address are beating their dog inside the house. She said she has seen them do this before in the yard and can now hear the dog screaming from inside the house. Deputy advised. The owner only had one dog, which is a brown and white hound dog. The dog was brought outside and there is no physical harm or injuries to the dog.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

Dec. 17

12:16 p.m., Old Rider Road, Burton. Two lab dogs, one yellow and one black, are very dirty. One growls if approached. Last seen headed toward Hotchkiss Road. Request deputy to check area; caller concerned they might be aggressive. No need for a deputy to stop at complainants unless something else is needed. The caller has seen the dogs over the past two weeks. Trooper checked area and was unable to locate the two dogs. Spoke with other neighbors and they have not seen any dogs running loose in the area.

Dec. 18

12:05 p.m., Madison Road, Huntsburg. Complainant wants to remain anonymous. There is a dog tied outside with no shelter. Complainant believes that is it a Rottweiler. Complainant stated in the Geauga County Maple Leaf a few weeks ago, there was a complaint regarding a dog left outside with no shelter and it did not have an address attached to it. Complainant believes it to be this address. Deputy arrived on scene and observed the dog chained to a tree with no shelter. Deputy spoke wit the owner who advised the dog was outside for only 1.5 hours. I suggested to obtain some type of shelter for the dog and register it because it was not registered with the county. No further action appeared to be necessary.

EXTRA PATROL

Dec. 16

12:26 p.m., Georgia Road, Middlefield. Male at Middlefield Police Deportment stated he saw teenagers a couple times this summer on his 46-acre property. Caller works afternoon shift and is concerned for his wife and kids. After dark Dec. 12, his trailcam took pictures of three adults and a teenager on his property. Unknown what they were doing there. Caller is satisfied with extra patrol. He will contact the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office at another time to show deputies the trailcam pictures.

HARASSMENT

Dec. 16

4:41 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Complainant states a customer keeps calling and harassing staff members. He is calling from Chardon Motel, room 18. He is upset about the amount of pickles on his sandwich. Capps manager on the phone with the customer; he is extremely distraught he did not get extra pickles on his sandwich. He is demanding action. Complainant called back and advised the subject continues to call and is now swearing and threatening the staff. Capps manager stated she does not wish to pursue criminal charges at this time, just requested we ask the man to quit calling. Chardon police spoke with the suspect and advised him if he continues to call he would get charged. Capps manager was advised police had made contact with the suspect and the suspect was advised to quit calling. The manager was advised to call the sheriff’s office back if this individual started calling again.

SUSPICIOUS

Dec. 12

7:39 p.m., Sidley Road, Thompson. The house three houses south of the caller burned down a few months ago. The caller drove by 10 minutes ago and saw people with flashlights near the garage. There was also a beige SUV?parked on the road in front of the house. Caller did contact the property owner and she advised nobody should be on the property. Deputy responded. Exterior checked secure; no signs of criminal activity. Vehicle left prior to deputy arrival. Complainant believed after thinking about it, the people may have been hunters looking for an injured deer.

Dec. 15

11:10 a.m., Reeves Road, Parkman. Male going door to door in the 1700 block of Reeves Road trying to sell magazines and stuff. Last seen heading toward Kalle Natural Stores on Reeves.?Male would get mad if you don’t buy anything from him. Just seems odd. Wife will call in with a description. Male is heading toward Reeves Road; short, wearing a green hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. Caller is advising he just came out from the house behind Kalle Natural. Original complainant called back and his co-worker advised they have had problems with this same male in the past harassing them until the buy something. Deputy spoke with the complainant who understood the identified male was not breaking any laws going door to door selling magazines. She was concerned that he was getting upset with people who did not want ot purchase them. I spoke with the male who had a warrant outside the pickup radius.

TRAFFIC HAZARD

Dec. 18

1:16 p.m., Stafford Road, Auburn. Tree trimming company is cutting down trees. Complainant states she was driving down Stafford between Auburn and Munn, and they continued to cut down the tree as she was passing and it almost hit her car. Complainant also said there are no signs advising they are on the road and there are trees on the roadway. Trooper responded. Owner was advised to post work signs at the intersection of Stafford Road and Munn Road. Owner will also make sure his employees flag traffic through the work zone.

TRAFFIC STOP

Dec. 17

7:26 p.m., Claridon Troy Road, Troy. Deputy stopped defendant’s vehicle for speed. Defendant’s hands were shaking and an odor of burnt marijuana was smelled coming from the interior of the car. Defendant quickly lit a cigarette. Defendant had syringes all over the inside of the car. A search of the car produced small amounts of green leafy shake on the floors. Defendant stated his friends smoked marijuana in his car previously. Defendant was warned for his speed. Defendant had not been wearing his seat belt and was cited for the belt. He was cooperative and polite.

WEAPON OFFENSE

Dec. 13

3:23 p.m., Boulder Glen Drive, Munson. Caller would like someone to check the area. He can hear someone shooting. He would like to make sure a proper backstop is in place. Caller would like to meet with a deputy. Deputy spoke with the homeowner of the property and it is determined they are shooting properly. Homeowner is shooting clay pigeons with birdshot. Also spoke with the complainant and advised him of my findings.
