The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 23-29. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 279 calls during this seven-day period.

911 PROBLEM

Jan. 28

2:38 p.m., Linda Drive, Newbury. 911 call received with kids crying and screaming, then the phone was disconnected. Upon call back, a young female answered the phone. I asked her where her mother was, she said she was working. Asked who is watching her and she said the babysitter. I asked to speak with the babysitter and another female came to the phone. She said they are fighting and it was a misunderstanding. Female was whispering, then disconnected the phone. Busy upon call back. Babysitter has everything under control now. One of the older kids overreacted when one of the younger kids was walking around with a butter knife. Mom will be home shortly.

ANIMAL ABUSE

Jan. 28

7:29 a.m., Peters Road, Middlefield. Complainant was visiting in the area and the dog from a house on the road was trying to get into the residence she was visiting. This dog is always outside, request someone to check due to the weather. Deputy responded to location. Unable to locate dog at the residence. Spoke to the neighbor, who advised the dog has access to a dog door in the garage thats heated. Neighbor also advised they both keep their dogs in when the weather is cold.

BURGLARY

Jan. 26

4:31 p.m., Fox Road, Auburn. Caller is a neighbor, states his house was broken into today. Caller advised he checked his neighbor’s house, and it appears the garage has been broken into as well. Neighbor should be at work so is not aware yet that this has happened. Caller already reported his house to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office. Caller does not believe anyone is still in the garage.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE

Jan. 25

1:20 p.m., Nicki Lane, Hambden. Female reporting a domestic dispute. Ongoing problem with her boyfriend not being forced to leave the residence yesterday after a domestic report. The caller is confused and does not understand why the deputies will not help her. No alcohol today. Complainant advised that nothing new has occurred since we were here this morning. Both parties were getting ready to go to a birthday party together. Complainant advised that she only had questions regarding him not being on the lease and not being removed from the residence. She was told that she would need to go to Municipal Court to have him evicted. Both advised that there were no problems currently and asked me to leave so they could go to the party together.

EXTRA PATROL

Jan. 28

9:20 a.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. Vacant house of ours was broken into sometime between Wednesday and Saturday. Owners came out Saturday. Doesn’t appear anything is missing. Owners re-secured house. Owners will be coming out today to check the house again. They will call if they find anything else today. Extra patrol requested.

FRAUD

Jan. 27

1:13 p.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Claridon. Caller receiving scam phone calls in which the person states they will be at the house with the winnings at 4 p.m. today. Complainant wishing to meet with the deputy. The male was also asking questions about how much cash the complainant kept on him and in the house.

RV PROBLEM

Jan. 26

12:22 p.m., Wye Road, Munson. Caller states that her neighbors are riding their snowmobiles in her yard. The neighbors live on Rockhaven. She does not know their names, but they were riding two white snowmobiles. It was two white males and one black male. They do it at night time. Deputy was unable to determine where snowmobiles are coming from. Extra patrol requested.

SUSPICIOUS

Jan. 23

6:34 p.m., Munn & Washington Road, Auburn. Male on bridge, possibly has a rifle with him or maybe a tripod for a camera. SUV parked on bridge with hazards. Caller was unable to give any further info, he said it was too dark out. Deputy checked Munn Road, from Washington to Crackle and was unable to locate male.

Jan. 25

1:11 p.m., W. High Street, Middlefield. Two young kids in a running car, black Buick, by the pharmacy. Complainant didn’t notice there was a 13 year old female in the vehicle with the two younger children. The father of the kids was advised of the complaint. Everything checks OK.

THEFT

Jan. 24

11:44 a.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Dispatch responded to location. Not a theft complaint. Male lent his car “again” to his ex-wife and she didn’t bring it back yet, less then 24 hours ago. Let it be known, male reported the same complaint awhile back and the case was finished, male refused to pursue criminal charges at the end. Male unsure if he wants to pursue charges again and will think about it. Advice given.

TRAFFIC CRASH

Jan. 24

7:06 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Munson. Deputy was en-route to a Heather Hill rescue call. Deputy noticed a car with no lights on, parked across from the Sherman Road intersection. The car appeared to be a dark gray Hyundai with a white male standing outside. Deputy turned around at Heather Hill and discovered the vehicle had left northbound on Bass Lake Road. Deputy found a fence, possibly for Sand Ridge Golf Course, had been crashed into by the car. Deputies attempted to find the vehicle but were unsuccessful.
