The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 13 through Feb. 19. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 271 calls during this seven-day period.

BAD CHECK

Feb. 17

11:18 a.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. A customer issued a fake cashiers check in the amount of $18,000. The subject stated he was going to return to the car dealership in approximately 40 minutes. Deputy met with the complainant in the office. The subjects came into the business to purchase a light green 2006 Range Rover. Check for $18,000 was cashed at U.S. Bank and the complainant was advised it was not good. Complainant contacted subjects and they were going to be in today to make good on the check.

CITIZEN ASSIST

Feb. 13

6:32 p.m., Nelson Road, Parkman. The caller is elderly. He keeps trying to cancel his meals-on-wheels and they will not stop delivering him food. he would like to speak to a deputy about this. He advised he does not need to stop by, he would just like a call back. Deputy spoke with the complainant. He advised he attempted to cancel his meals-on-wheels. He stated he was unable to. The deputy will follow up with this on Monday. Advice given.

Feb. 14

7:10 p.m., Center St., Parkman. Caller is concerned because his wife has not returned home, she was suppose to be home at 6:15 p.m. Caller states they only live 5 minutes from the church and is concerned his wife may have gotten into an addicent or her vehicle is disabled. She drives a 2009 Honda CRV titanium in color. He is unsure of the plate number. Caller called back and stated his wife arrived home, she has stopped at the store.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

Feb. 13

4:18 p.m., Munn Road, Auburn. Male was cutting and taking wood from the property. He was to pay for the wood as he did it, but he has not. There is some property damage on the gate as well. Caller would like a report.

CIVIL DISPUTE

Feb. 19

5:38 p.m., Georgia Road, Middlefield. Caller states she rents horse stalls and recently she has been having problems with one of the renters. She states she gave the renter till March 1st, 2015 to remove her eight ponies from the stables. When the renter asked for a little more time she was advised NO, the renter then became outraged making threats. Caller would like to speak with a deputy to see what options they have. Caller spoke with a deputy over the phone but would like one to respond to the residence. She was advised it may be a little while before someone could get there, she was ok with that. The complainant was gien advice in reference to evicting a renter, there were no direct threats made.

EXTRA PATROL

Feb. 16

3:44 p.m., Willow Lane, Hambden. Caller states it appears some snowmobiles took down numerous mailboxes on the street. Caller believes this occurred after 9 p.m. Caller states they ride two to three times a week down the street around 9 p.m. Caller requesting a watch on the street incase they cause any further issues.

FRAUD

Feb. 17

8:24 a.m., Gottschalk Parkway, Auburn. The University of Alabama placed a order and before he shipped it, he double checked and found out that it was a false order and that this has been happening with them. The order was for $23,500 plus shipping. Request to speak to a deputy. The school also advised the local police and the FBI are involved in this scam.

INFO REPORT

Feb. 16

5:56 a.m., Mitchells Mill Road, Chardon. Plow driver for Mountain View apartments pushed snow across the road and left a snow hazard. Chardon Road Department will take a picture and talk to the owner to advise plow driver it is unacceptable to do this and will clean it up. Wants this reported so if it happens again there can be legal actions taken against the plow driver.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Feb. 17

1:33 p.m., Bundysburg Road, Middlefield. It appears someone is trying to cut a hole in my reindeer fence. Complainant wished documentation only at this time. He found a small hole which appeared to be cut in the chain link fence surrounding the reindeer pen. There were no fresh footprints observed in the snow. Complainant could not explain why the hole may have been cut since it was mich to small to gain access to the area or for the reindeer to get out. No suspects or leads at this time.

SUSPICIOUS

Feb. 18

9:14 a.m., Stone Road, Newbury. This morning around 2:00 a.m., two males come to the house and knocked on the door. They said they were from the gas company and asked if I have gas. Complainant said no and they asked does she know if the neighbors do? She advised that it’s her fathers house. They left the residence. A few minutes later, she saw a box truck looking vehicle with a yellow flashing light going down the road. One male was wearing carhartts and work gloves. She couldn’t see the other male. Female was advised to call right away next time or if she see’s something else suspicious. Extra patrol requested. Deputy confirmed the gas company was in the area working. Dug up the gas line at Portlew & Stone.

TRAFFIC HAZARD

Feb. 14

7:51 p.m., Hidden Springs Drive, Munson. There is a vehicle parked on Hidden Springs that the road department says is parked on the curve and the road is drifted. They are not able to plow because of the vehicle. The road department has left several notices with the vehicle owner with no resolve. If the vehicle is not removed the road department will be having it towed tomorrow. Vehicle was removed.
