The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 27 through March 5. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 303 calls during this seven-day period.
ANIMAL ABUSE
March 4
1:09 p.m., Water St., Chardon. Two complainants at Chardon PD to make a complaint of animal abuse in Hambden. Deputy spoke with complainants regarding the treatment of their horses. The complainants stated the horses are being kept at a stable on GAR Highway and believe they are not getting fed and water on a regular basis. Complainants stated they are removing the horses on Saturday and they do not want deputies to speak with anyone at this time. Complainants stated they are very particular on how their horses are fed and treated, more than the average person, and we would not notice anything out of the norm if we went there. Complainant further stated they will call back on Saturday if they feel it’s necessary.
CITIZEN’S ASSIST
March 3
2:27 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Hambden. The caller is elderly. She stated her dog fell and cannot get up. She is worried the dog will freeze. She is requesting someone help her get the dog up. Female called back stating she no longer needs assistance.
EXTRA PATROL
March 5
8:35 a.m., Nash Road, Parkman. On Tuesday and again today a dark colored version van has run the bus red lights without even slowing down. The bus comes between 6;15 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. each day. Request extra patrol.
FRAUD
March 1
1:36 p.m., Jo Ann Drive, Middlefield. Male in the lobby of Middlefield Police Department to meet with a deputy about a fraudulent use of a bank account. Deputy spoke with the power of attorney for the complainant. He advised a female home healthcare worker asked to borrow money from the complainant back in 2012. They signed a contract for repayment of the loan. Since then she had been making regular payments until recently. Parties were advised this was a civil matter and given the proper steps to file the court documents.
March 2
2:20 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Elderly female requesting to meet with a deputy regarding a letter she received advising her personal information had been compromised in an identity theft incident. Advice given. No crime occurred.
HARASSMENT
March 5
12:17 p.m., Cornelia Drive, Aquilla. Complainant states he continues to receive virus emails to his phone from a female he met on a dating website. He wishes to file a complaint. Deputy advised. Male receiving text messages from a dating site with whom he was a member. Male advised to contact his provider and block the number so no more messages would be received. Male advised he searched the messages and found out they are virus laden. Male will block the number.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
Feb. 28
11:07 a.m., Chardon Road, Chardon. Caller arrived at the business to find property damage including a fence line that was pushed down. There is a gold Chevy S-10 in the parking lot and the caller believed that vehicle may be responsible for the damage. Deputy responded. The S-10 is not involved. Vehicle that struck the fence had to be much larger and a 4×4. Damage on the S-10 is old and coated with salt. In addition, tire tread pattern is different on the S-10 than the impressions at the damaged fence. Property owner estimates damage at around $300.
SUSPICIOUS
March 1
11:01 p.m., Loring Ave., Aquilla. Garage open with fresh prints. Male stated that no one should be opening it. Nothing looked like it was missing that he knows of. He would like the area checked and would like to speak with a deputy. Deputy found footprints that lead to the garage, however, nothing missing. Entry was not made into the residence.
March 3
7:14 a.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Four males were at the end of the caller’s driveway at around 2:30 a.m. in a white pickup truck. Caller saw them get out and it looked like they were dancing and fighting. One of the males then ran east and then the truck left. When she left her house this morning, she saw a tennis shoe and jacket on the driveway. She is nervous to touch it; she does not know what’s in it. She is not at home now. Deputies responded and checked the area. Deputy located clothes and shoes in the driveway. No blood or other evidence located. We checked the area and located nothing else. Caller advised the people were outside hours ago and did not call at that time.
THREATENING
Feb. 27
4:26 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Munson. Caller states she received a call from a number in New York stating she had won a grant. She advised the male she was not interested and advised him to call back. At that time the male became agitated. Caller then hung up on the male. The male then called back making threats, stating he was going to come to her house and harm her among other threats. Possible phone scam.
