Confirmation
St. Mary School eighth-graders celebrated the sacrament of confirmation last week bringing them into full membership in the church.
STEM Expo
Kindergarten students invited the preschoolers over for a STEM expo. The kindergartners worked with preschoolers at stations revolving around a “Frozen” theme and incorporating science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The kindergartners enjoyed being teachers for the day.
Calling All Fish Lovers
Each Friday of Lent, the St. Mary Banquet Hall buzzes with excitement as preparations begin to open the doors for the weekly fish fry event. Lines begin to form before 4:30 p.m. and continue on steadily until 7 p.m. Last week, more than 600 people were served. The event helps benefit students in need at St. Mary School and brings together families from the school and parish.
Last week, diners were treated to the musical talents of Joey Tomsick on the accordion, enticing kids to get up join in the “Chicken Dance” and adults joining in a sing-a-long of “Roll Out the Barrel.”
Each week, various volunteers and groups come together to help make the dinner possible. Last week, members of the public school religion group and St. Mary School Beacon of Light worked the room to ensure diners were served well and had all they needed. Washing dishes, packing meals and waiting tables kept the students hopping all night long.
The St. Mary Fish Fry is a great place to come and spend time within the community, getting to know one’s neighbors, Catholic or not. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and food is served until 7 p.m. Please visit the school website for full menu and pricing at www.stmaryschoolchardon.org.
