Officer Phil Visits
What do magic, games and ventriloquism have to do with safety? Ask Officer Phil.
The Chardon Police Department in cooperation with Creative Safety Products helped to provide the elementary students with a fun, entertaining and informative assembly about safety last week. During the live presentation, students learned about the dangers that exist around them and the instructors helped to reinforce proper actions they can take if confronted with a problem.
School resource officer Mike Shaw played along with the students in interactive games, helping make him less intimidating and approachable to the kids should they ever need his help.
Chief of Police Scott Niehus in a letter writes, “The City of Chardon Police Department is hopeful that the continued personal contact your child has with our officers will constitute a trustworthy and respectable relationship that will endure throughout the child’s developmental years and extend into his/her adult life.”
To reinforce what the children learned in the live presentation, each child is given a grade specific activity book and other interactive materials to take home and work on with his or her parents or guardians and teachers throughout the year. The materials are sponsored and provided with the help of local area businesses.
