The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office April 17-24. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 404 calls during this seven-day period.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

April 18

12:56 a.m., Farmington Road, Parkman. Wife will meet deputy. Husband left for work and saw a horse that does not belong to them in his pasture. They own three horses in the barn. Caller concerned his horses may not be in the barn, but cannot turn around to check and wife is afraid to check on her own. Deputy responded. Owners’ horses check ok. There is a white horse in the pasture that does not belong to the owner. The horse has a blanket on it. Homeowner will keep horse overnight and see if its owner is looking for it.

CITIZEN ASSIST

April 23

6:20 p.m., Huntley Road, Huntsburg. Caller is having issues with neighbor’s livestock coming onto his property. Complainant’s concern is the cows frequently get out and come onto his field. Complainant stated this normally is not a problem; however, he is preparing to put a large amount of cash crop into his field and is concerned over financial loss should the cows get into the crops. Deputy spoke to the cow owner, who was attempting to get the cows off the complainant’s property. The cow owner stated he is aware of and understands complainant’s concern, and is taking steps to better secure his cows. Advice given to both. Cow owner was advised he could be charged if he fails to keep his livestock on his property. He stated he understood.

CITIZEN’S DISPUTE

April 18

8:19 p.m., Sumner Road, Hambden. Caller states while she was unloading groceries her dog ran into the

neighbor’s yard. The neighbor proceeded to grab the dog by the leg and kick it in the ribs. Caller states this is an ongoing neighbor problem. Deputy spoke with the neighbor who stated the complainant’s dog came onto their property and into their garage. Neighbor stated the dog became aggressive, but she did not strike the dog. Advice given to both parties regarding the ongoing neighbor dispute. Complainant was advised it is her responsibility to ensure her animals do not go off her property.

April 21

5:20 p.m., Clark Road, Chardon. Caller advised there has been an Amish crew working on a property near the caller and the crew crossed over onto the caller’s property and started logging. The crew has left for the day. Caller advised he told them he will give them until tomorrow to resolve the damage they have caused. Caller would like to document what is happening and get advice on where to go if they do not resolve the issues. Complainant states one house to the west of him they are logging and have encroached his property. He has asked the Amish to stop; however, there is a dispute over property lines. Complainant stated he will handle it tomorrow through civil court and will call if he has any other concerns.

LITTERING

April 21

2:26 p.m., Nash Road, Troy. There are thousands of Burton Sheet Metal invoices blowing through the wind. The caller has contacted Burton Sheet Metal and they are en route to help clean up. Apparently they are coming from the recycle bin. Caller advised his attorney said to call for a report. Caller stated there were people on scene currently picking up the litter. Deputy advised. Ongoing dispute over the recycling bin lids not being secured. However, this was not from the recycling bin. Burton Sheet Metal’s Dumpster lid blew open releasing unsecured papers about the area. BSM employees picked up all the papers. No crime.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

April 19

9:13 a.m., Sperry Road, Newbury. Yesterday, the complainant confronted the neighbor’s friend, asking him not to park his Toyota Camry in his driveway. This morning, he awoke to find his property had been damaged and his yard was turfed. He believes the neighbor and his friend may be responsible. Report taken.

SUSPICIOUS

April 17

2:21 p.m., Berkshire Drive, Aquilla. Five males, possibly Latino are walking up and down the road videotaping houses. The caller does not recognize any of them. Dispatch responded to the area and located the males who did not speak English. One male was taking pictures of animals and landscape. Male showed phone and pictures, and I noted animals and trees. Males advised they were taking pictures before they returned home. No crime noted.

April 22

1;16 a.m., Cloverdale Drive, Middlefield. Caller believes someone came into her house and has taken all three of the iPhones that were in the house. Deputy advised. Back screen window is open on the house with forced entry of the window in the back. Caller’s sister’s phone is missing and it’s an iPhone. Daughter’s phone is also missing, but is not activated. Caller said her sister’s husband in Georgia locked the phone and erased it already. Husband called this morning. Tracked the phone at Walmart in Middlefield. It has since been turned off. Second victim called and advised her phone has been tracked to the Middlefield Walmart. The caller will meet a deputy at customer service. Info obtained, further investigation needed. Phones recovered and photographed. Phones returned to owners.

April 23

8:58 p.m., Leader Lane, Hambden. Caller states she bought a computer from a female that she knows off a garage sale website. Caller now thinks the computer is stolen and did not belong to the female she purchased it from. Deputy advised. No stolen record found for the computer.

THEFT

April 22

10:01 a.m., Williams Road, Hambden. Caller went through a divorce and the bank now owns the house. I went to a neighbor’s yesterday and while I was there I noticed all kinds of damage to the house and items were stolen. The bank told me to call. I saw some of my personal items at an address in Chardon on the outside of the house. Caller was advised to have the bank call the sheriff’s office to file a report since they own the house. The caller will call Chardon Police Department about retrieving his property from the location in Chardon City.

TRESPASSING

April 20

5:24 p.m., Meadowwood Drive, Claridon. Red Taurus with two African-American females are stuck in caller’s yard. He said it is a private drive and he wants them cited for trespassing. Female got stuck in the ditch while trying to turn around. She was pulled out by a resident on Meadowwood Drive. There were two ruts left in the ditch. Female was advised she may be contacted by the association when it comes time for repair.

VAGRANCY

April 19

1:05 p.m., Ravenna Road, Munson. Complainant requests a deputy meet his father in the parking lot of MorningStar Friends Church. Yesterday, while walking on his property the caller discovered evidence that someone has been living on his property; there are lean-toos and small huts built out of tarps. The caller’s father will be waiting in a maroon Dodge. Deputy transported homeless male to Painesville so that he could get to Project Hope homeless shelter for the night.
