What began as a simple fabric and upholstery business run out of an Australian home 30 years ago has turned into a 4,000-square-foot business in Chardon.

The Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting Aug. 10 to celebrate the grand reopening of Worthington Fabric, which relocated from Cherry Avenue to 210 Washington Street earlier this year.

Owner City White, a Chardon resident, hosted a series of events through Aug. 15 to show off her new facility, which houses roll upon roll of designer brand name fabric and decorative trim. White offers a host of other products and services including custom made draperies and blinds, wood refinishing and repair, furniture upholstery and alternations. She also provides interior design consultation.

“We go to people’s houses and help them put a room together,” said White, proudly pointing to a before and after slide show, which runs continually in the store.

In addition, White reupholsters cars, boats and motorcycles, installing everything from custom springs to the vinyl leather to the foam. Her services also expand into the commercial realm. She has designed and re-upholstered booths and furniture for local restaurants and provided flame proofing for materials used in schools and commercial businesses.

Because of the relationships she has built over the years, White said she is able to provide her fabric and materials at much lower prices than would be found in chain stores. Worthington Fabrics is open Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information call 440- 285-4009 or visit cwfabric.com.
