The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Aug. 21-27. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 376 calls during this seven-day period.
AGENCY ASSIST
Aug. 21
5:56 a.m., Lake Road, Conneaut. D-Day Invasion Day. Several K-9 sweeps were done at the D-Day event.
Aug. 25
11:12 a.m., Water Street, Chardon. Officer needed to take subject into custody for failed drug test. Subject in courtroom awaiting judge.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Aug. 21
8:55 a.m., Windmill Point Road, Huntsburg. Dog is attacking a raccoon. Caller is 15 and home alone, and requesting assistance. Responded to location; assistance provided. Dog in house and raccoon back into the wild.
Aug. 25
2:22 p.m., Kile Road, Montville. Bunch of domesticated turkeys in the road. Caller wants a deputy to scare them away.
CITIZEN ASSIST
Aug. 21
2:42 p.m., Hobart Road, Parkman. Unknown person made false allegations against me last week. Complainant read the incident in the Maple Leaf and now wants to document his side of the altercation and clarify what actually occurred. Spoke with caller who was advised to contact Maple Leaf to give his side of story.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
Aug. 21
2:25 p.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. Male coming from Chipmunk Lane to pick up property. We had a break up last night and he refused to leave yesterday. Caller is concerned for her safety because he has a temper and carries guns. He threatened to burn the house down and kick in the door and shoot the place up. Male moved most of his property out of the home without any further problems. Complainant will keep the dogs until the male can find a home for them. House keys were returned and male advised not to return to property without contacting complainant first.
Aug. 25
4:16 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Hambden. Caller is upset tenants were not truthful about size of their dogs. Landlord is concerned the dogs are tearing up the apartment and one is aggressive. Caller will advise when she has returned home to meet with a deputy.
FISH & GAME
Aug. 24
2:26 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Will be out in the area checking for the bear. People are concerned with the children getting off the school bus. Bear UTL/GOA.
FRAUD
Aug. 22
11 a.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Male in the lobby of post to report suspicious activity and fraud. Fraudulent check issued to the complainant from a Craigslist post. Complainant was seeking a loan. Complainant tried to cash the check and was advised by his bank it is not a real check. Responding officer contacted the bank on the fake check. That bank has had several fake checks made and distributed and requested the fake check be sent to them. Check was sent on to bank in New York.
HARASSMENT
Aug. 23
8:23 p.m., Cloverdale Drive, Middlefield. On Facebook, son was called a racial name. This occurred last year as well and now that school is starting it has started up. Deputy informed of call.
Aug. 25
3:39 p.m., Linda Drive, Newbury. Would like to file a report. Lives in Scranton Woods. Child left binder sitting outside last night. When they found it on their front porch leaning against the screen door, “You are super fat and we will kill you” was written on it as well as names. Caller states it is very sloppy “little kid” handwriting. Report taken.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
Aug. 27
7:54 a.m., Nicki Lane, Hambden. I was traveling on Chardon?Windsor and I was being tailgated. The person is my neighbor. After I got into my drive he threw some trash at my car and damaged my bumper. Report taken.
ROAD RAGE
Aug. 26
3:50 p.m., Clay Street, Huntsburg. Appears to be a road rage incident in front of caller’s house. Caller advised two vehicles stopped, drivers exited, had a verbal altercation and threw beer cans at each other. One vehicle is still there, has driven into the ditch. Responded to location and spoke to both parties involved. Both parties engaged in a verbal argument over driving habits.
SUSPICIOUS
Aug. 22
8:32 p.m., Swine Creek Road, Middlefield. Male walking down the road with a female. Male had a beer in his hand. He jumped in front of my vehicle and gave me the middle finger. He was wearing a blue hoodie and shorts. UTL.
Aug. 24
1:47 p.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. IR only for documentation. Had a deputy out because someone had cut the barbwire fencing and let the horses out. Now a neighbor told me that someone last night let one of the horses out. Don’t know who is doing this. Zone car advised. Copy on board.
THEFT
Aug. 22
12:08 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Received a call from bank that $40,000 was taken from account. Female responded to Giant Eagle with her 57-year-old son. Son was the one taking the money from the account. Chardon PD was called to Giant Eagle to make sure he didn’t cause issues. Son left without incident, clearly shaking and also said he would stay away from residence. Female wishes to speak with a deputy regarding possible theft or fraud charges. Chardon PD transported female back to her residence. Deputy advised. Report taken.
1:39 p.m., Ravenna Road, Chardon. A black motorcycle just took all of my $20s. $200 to $300 worth. Left southbound. They bought some veggies first. A man and a woman. Happened 10 minutes ago. Deputy advised. UTL. Report taken.
