Lava Lake Team Building

Students in Mr. Sherman’s fifth-grade classes got a break from the classroom on Aug. 28 when they took their lesson outside for an interactive assignment. The Lava Lake team building and problem solving activity is a popular, engaging small group initiative activity that provides a rich teamwork challenge for about 30 to 45 minutes. The exercise involves thinking, imagination, action, fantasy, risk and finding an attractive solution.

“There are invariably plenty of key communications and decisions during the exercise that provide for fruitful debriefing,” Mr. Sherman says. “The exercise will tend to naturally expose processes and issues related to many aspects of teamwork, including cooperation, communication, trust, empowerment, risk-taking, support, problem-solving, decision-making and leadership, but best of all, it’s fun!”

CMS Holds Book Fair

Cardinal Middle School students have been able to get a jump on their reading this school year thanks to the Scholastic Book Fair held during the first week of school. Students had an opportunity to browse and purchase from more than 50 titles during their lunch period. Proceeds from the event will go towards the PTSA.

Early Release Wednesday

Cardinal Schools will hold its first early release Wednesday on Sept. 16.

This year, the district is part of Cohort 2 for the State Personnel Development Grant. The grant requires all participants to implement the state model, Ohio Improvement Process, which requires the development of teacher-based teams, building leadership teams and a district leadership team.

“The 201516 school year will focus on creating these high functioning teacher-based teams so that best instructional practices can be implemented for all students,” says Superintendent Scott Hunt. “The Early Release Days will provide the necessary time for those teams to develop. In addition, after this year, we will no longer need to have professional development days (Waiver Days) on the school calendar. All future professional development can take place during the Early Release Days.”

A complete list of early release dates can be found on the Cardinal website, www.cardinalschools.org.
