Band Featured on News

The Cardinal Huskies marching band was the featured band on the FOX 8 Morning Show Sept. 18 during the Friday Night Touchdown Kicking it With Kenny segments. Only 10 marching bands in Ohio are selected for this elite performance throughout the regular high school football 10-week season.

The band was featured throughout the morning, live from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland. The band also received a free tour of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum following their on-air performance.

Time Through Pictures

Students in Mr. Sherman’s fifth-grade social studies class at Cardinal Middle School demonstrated that time can be shown as a picture by using timelines, which is a method for picturing or seeing time. Students used the lesson to discover how to create and interpret timelines from one another by taking their own milestone events so far in life, placing them on a timeline and then sharing them in class with their peers.

“By doing this, the relationship between events can be seen and we can learn a lot about each other,” says teacher Joe Sherman. “Patterns can emerge that might not be seen without the timeline. The ability to analyze and draw conclusions from timelines is important to the study of history.”

Hall of Fame Inductees Honored

The Cardinal High School 2015 Hall of Fame inductees received the royal treatment during their visit to the district on Sept. 18. Inductees were able to have lunch with students at Jordak Ele-mentary School, tour the other schools, and one even lectured to the high school anatomy class.

Inductees were also given the chance to address students in grades 8-12 during a special assembly in the high school gym before being honored at the varsity football game that night. The official Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held at Bistro 608 on Sept. 19.

Meet the Candidates

The Cardinal Local School District Board of Education will have three seats up for election on Nov. 3. There are four candidates running for election: Wendy Anderson, Greg McClain, Katie Thomas and Jason Traggiai.

The high school government classes are sponsoring a Meet the Candidates night at 7 p.m. Oct. 5 in the middle school cafetorium.

The event will give the community an opportunity to meet the candidates seeking to represent the district and its students. Candidates will provide information on their experience and platforms; time will be provided for questions.

Shoe Collection Drive

The Cardinal Athletic Department is conducting a shoe collection drive through Oct. 23 to raise funds for pay-to-participate. The athletic department will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected, as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Those dollars will benefit pay-to-participate. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at Cardinal High School.

All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2-Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations.
