Volunteer Tutors Needed

Geauga County Job & Family Services, 12480 Ravenwood Drive, Munson, is recruiting volunteers for tutoring elementary and middle-school children in basic reading and math a few hours a week.

With the Arts

An enjoyable art show, “From Doodles to Digital,” featuring the “off-canvas” work of 38 artists, is now on display at Ursuline College in the Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery, 2550 Lander Road, Pepper Pike. The show continues through Dec. 16. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 12-5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Distinguished Speakers Series

Tickets are now on sale at the Chardon Public Library for the Nov. 7 reception and speech by award winning author David Liss at the Notre Dame Education Center, 13000 Auburn Road, Munson. Liss is widely known for his historical fiction and contemporary mystery and graphic novels.

A wine-cheese reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. and the program begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for both are $20 or $5 for the program only. Tickets for the program will also be sold at the door.

Appliance and Hazardous Waste Collection

The Solid Waste Management District is having an appliance and hazardous waste collection Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Geauga County Engineer’s Yard, 12665 Merritt Road. The collection is for Geauga County residents only, no commercial businesses.

Paint, oil, antifreeze, propane tanks and other toxics will be accepted. Television sets will not be accepted.

Tri-County Coin Club

The Tri-County Coin Club will meet at 6:45 p.m. Oct. 8 at St. Luke Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Munson. Following a short business meeting, there will be a 50-plus-lot coin auction, door prizes, coin displays and more.

The monthly meetings are open to coin collectors of all ages. For information, call 440-564-7142.

Friends of WomenSafe

The fourth annual Friends of WomenSafe (FOW) Tickled Pink Shopping Extravaganza will be held at the Geauga Campus of Kent State University on Oct. 10. There will be crafts, cosmetics, jewelry, clothing and more.

Proceeds benefit the free services and accommodations offered to victims of domestic violence at WomenSafe’s Green House on Ravenna Road, Munson.
