Sign Up for Home Delivered Holiday Meals
The Geauga County Department on Aging will offer a free traditional meal to any Geauga County seniors, age 60 and older, who will be home and alone on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, and/or Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
A friendly volunteer will deliver a hot holiday meal to the senior’s home and spend a little time visiting on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas day.
If one is or knows a senior citizen that would like a holiday meal, call the department on aging at 440-279-2130.
Halloween Party
Oct. 30, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A “Munster” Halloween party will be held for Geauga County senior citizens at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive.
There will be pizza and snacks and tricks and treats. Dress up as characters from “The Munsters” or “The Addams Family.”
A $3 donation will be accepted to cover costs; registration is required.

Senior Learning Program
Nov. 9, 1-2:30 p.m.
Attorney Karen Hummel, NSSA advisor Ford E. Fram and tax specialist Barry Danko will present “Finding the Gold in your Golden Years” at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive in Chardon.
Learn the basics of estate planning from local attorney Karen Hummel, including why seniors need a will, other documents they may need and whether one needs to sign a new will.
Learn the importance of when and how to file for benefits, the importance of spousal benefits, and the strategy of file and suspend from National Social Security Association advisor Ford Fram.
There will be an opportunity for questions following both presentations.
Refreshments will be available.

Geauga Department on Aging has OSHIIP (Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information) certified staff and volunteers trained by the Ohio Department of Insurance. Get accurate and impartial information about Medicare, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D drug plans. One-on-one review appointments are available weekdays through Dec. 4; call for an appointment.

Mobile Library: Tuesdays, 9:30-10:30 a.m. The Geauga County Public Library will provide a mobile library unit for seniors to check out books, DVDs, CDs and more. Call the senior center or library for more information.
Exercise Programs: Chair Exercises – Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m., and Fridays, 9 a.m.; Moves and Grooves with Kathy – Thursdays, 8:30 a.m.; Chair Yoga – postponed.
Public Utilities Commission: Nov. 4. Learn about what financial assistance there is to help with one’s utility bills.

Intergenerational Program: Oct. 30. The kindergarten class from St. Anselm School will visit to trick or treat and play Bingo. Bring a bag of wrapped candy for the kids and come in kid-friendly costumes.
Matter of Balance: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost for the class series is $20. Call to register.

Chardon Meal Delivery Drivers Needed
The Geauga County Department on Aging is in need of Home Delivered Meal drivers in Chardon. Once trained, volunteers can deliver meals as a sub-stitute, once a month or as often as they would like. Many companies and/or civic groups organize their members to reduce the number of times individuals volunteer.
The meal routes are delivered Monday through Friday and provide a nutritious lunch to 10 to 15 homebound seniors.
Drivers must be 18 or older, have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP
Nov. 10, 1 p.m.
The Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP 4527 will meet at the Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road.
The program will be “Doctor’s Black Bag, Home Remedies, and Folk Lore,” presented by the Summit County Historical Society.
After the program, there will be a brief meeting and information about what AARP is doing for seniors.
The group trips are done for the season, but will start up again in the spring.
Food and paper products will be collected for the Food For Friends food pantry as well as donations of warm blankets and food for the Geauga County Dog Shelter.
