The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Oct. 23 through Oct. 29. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 342 calls during this seven-day period.

FIRE

Oct. 23

3:09 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Ground looks like it’s smoking or on fire, near where the road department was working on the guardrail. Across from St. Helen’s. Caller states it smells like something is burning. Deputy advised. Poured 5 gallons of water on newly installed guardrail where bolt heated wood causing a small fire on post. Water helped but did not fully extinguish fire/smoke. Unable to reach area of post between guardrail and post to extinguish embers. Fire Department still needs to take a look at post in the event the fire re-ignites.

NOISE PROBLEM

Oct. 27

7:49 a.m., Treadway Drive, Munson. Radio loud at above address and would like it turned down. We deal with this every day. Complainant called back that she turned it down a little. Second caller advised he lives on Treadway and Bradford at least four football fields away and he could hear the radio. This is plain harassment and he wants to file a complaint. He requests to speak to a deputy. Deputy spoke with the neighbors, who were advised there is no noise ordinance and to speak with an attorney for legal advice.

SUSPICIOUS

Oct. 24

9:19 p.m., Grey Friar Way, Munson. The caller stated her elderly mother is home alone and thinks someone is trying to break into the front of the house. The female is 61 years old. The caller said someone was pounding on the dining room window. She saw a shadow outside. No vehicles were seen. All her doors and windows are locked. Deputy checked the property. Caller feels better that we checked.

Oct. 25

9:52 p.m., Terrace Drive, Middlefield. Caller came home and found her dog tied outside and he was left in the home. She would like the house checked. She is outside in her car. Deputy advised. The interior checks ok. Unknown why the dog was outside.

Oct. 26

4:37 p.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Huntsburg. The caller is a real estate agent. She went to the house to put it up for sale. The caller stated a male was there inside. He appeared to be under the influence. There was a propane tank, a garbage bag and the floors and walls were heavily stained. There are a bunch of hoses coming from the propane tank. There is also an air conditioner next to the propane tank. The caller has felt ill since she left the residence. The caller is en-route to the ER in Madison to be treated for feeling ill after leaving this location. The male was very agitated while she was on the property. Deputy responded. Subject was not home and the residence had garbage throughout.

Oct. 27

Elderly male on line stating they have another male stating they are coming over to get a check for $800 and the female is giving them bank information. Deputy arrived on scene as the complainant was on the phone with the suspicious caller. The deputy attempted to speak with the person on the phone, but the caller hung up. Advice was given. No valid bank info was given over the phone.

THEFT

Oct. 24

5:28 p.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. 4-wheeler stolen in the past two hours. Black 2006 Honda 250EX. Fox sticker on left side near gas tank, no rear bumper, bungee cord holding it together, front end damage. Deputy advised. Female owner of the 4-wheeler stated that her boyfriend followed the tracks across the street and they came out in the woods of Burlington. He asked a female who was walking a dog if they had seen someone driving the 4-wheeler and she stated that she saw a male driving it wearing a yellow shirt.

Oct. 29

9:22 p.m., Georgia Road, Middlefield. Huge pumpkin was stolen from out front. The caller reported that her air filled pumpkin is missing. They believe that someone stole it. It is unknown at this time what happened to it. The tie down stakes are still in the ground. Caller just wanted incident report on file.

WEAPON OFFENSE

Oct. 24

8:58 a.m., Clay St., Thompson. Caller has suspicion that the neighbor is shooting deer with guns and he knows it’s bow season. He can’t get a hold of the Game Warden. Deputy advised. No evidence to support deer was shot outside of season. Complainant stated he believes Amish are hunting deer outside of season. Deputy did not observe any suspicious activity upon arrival and found it unsafe to search hunting area without appropriate high visibility gear.
