“Enormous” Book Club
On Nov. 5, Timmons Elementary School students started their day with a school-wide brain break. Entering Kenston Trails for a nature walk, they found some items out of place: a table full of tools, a dig site, bones, a giant egg and very large footprints added up to a big mystery.
With the help of teachers, Principal Dave Rogaliner and Dr. Michael Ryan, curator of vertebrate paleontology at Cleveland Museum of Natural History, students solved the clues to reveal “An Enormous Egg” by Oliver Butterworth as this year’s One School One Book (OSOB) selection. While students were out of the building, parents transformed the building into settings from the book.
Over the next month, Timmons’ families will be part of an “enormous” book club. Timmons PTO provides a copy of the book for each student. Students will all read the same book, one chapter a night, aloud at home. A variety of interdisciplinary activities are planned for students during the school day.
Informed Voters
Members of Kenston High School Political Action Committee of Kenston (PACK) greeted candidates and community members at a candidates night forum held in conjunction with The League of Women Voters of Geauga County. Candidates and issue representatives shared their platform and answered audience questions.

“The Curious Savage” by John Patrick is about Mrs. Savage who has inherited $10 million, but her eager stepchildren wish to assist her in disbursing the funds. When she is institutionalized by them, she discovers various social misfits who need the help she can provide. This comedy leaves the audience feeling that the neglected virtues of kindness and affection have not been entirely lost in a world that seems at times to only be motivated by greed and dishonesty.
