Advent Log

During Advent, St. Helen students gather around the Advent log each morning to pray and prepare themselves for the real meaning of Christmas, Jesus. Before prayer, students light a candle on the Advent log as a means of counting the days until Christmas, to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

The Advent log is approximately 4 feet in length. It contains a candle for each day of Advent, plus one for the Christmas holy day itself.

A Visit From St. Nicholas

St. Helen School celebrated St. Nicholas day with a surprise visit from St. Nicholas, himself. Known for his generosity to those in need and his love for children, St. Nicholas added a bit of welcome festivity during the early days of Advent. He spent his day at St. Helen School, visiting classrooms, talking with children and handing out small gifts.

St. Nicholas enriches our understanding of Santa Claus by showing the real historical person who inspired the familiar legend and traditions. He encourages all of us to be faithful, especially during Advent, and to stay close to Jesus.
