CHS Teacher Chosen to Present at Premier Expo

Summer break is still nearly five months away, but Cardinal High School science teacher Ben Clutter already has big plans. Clutter was recently informed that he would be presenting at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Conference and Expo in Denver, Colo., in June. The expo is the premier forum for exploring and exchanging ideas about education technology, attracting more than 18,000 educators and education leaders from around the world.

Clutter says the possibility came to be during the summer institute for College Ready Ohio, a K-12 collaborative effort that provides professional development, mobile learning technology, training and digital course materials to high school teachers. During the CRO institute, Clutter and other educators in the class felt it would be a beneficial experience to attend a conference like ISTE and present.

The group submitted proposals and found out in December that two were accepted. Clutter and his group will present two separate, two-hour poster sessions – “Using Google Hangouts to Enhance Your Distance PLC” and “Social Media: Taboo or Allowed in Edu.?”

The International Society for Technology in Education is the premier nonprofit organization serving educators and education leaders committed to empowering connected learners in a connected world. ISTE serves more than 100,000 education stakeholders throughout the world and aims to help learners flourish in a world that’s connected to technology by encouraging educators to implement a set of standards. The ISTE Standards are the definitive framework for successfully implementing digital strategies to positively impact learning, teaching and leading in a technology-powered world.

Clutter says he has been using the ISTE standards in his college classes and is also incorporating them into his high school science classes and is excited to share his experiences with others at the ISTE expo this summer.

“I have learned so much about technology integration in the classroom through College Ready Ohio that I really felt called to show other teachers how to transform their teaching,” says Clutter. “I feel that my teaching has gone through major changes in the past 18 months and the exciting thing about it is that I am only a part of the way through the transformation, there is still so much left to do.”

Cardinal Schools Snow Line

As the winter weather finally makes its way into the area, the school district like to remind parents about the Snow Line, the number one can call to check to see if the schools are open on a particular day.

With the new phone system came a new Snow Line number, so please keep this number on hand should one need to use it: 440-632-0261, option 9. The message on the line is usually updated by 6 a.m. if a closing has been issued.
