Tax Assistance Offered
Tax assistance will be available to seniors 60 years of age and older at the Geauga County Department on Aging Multi-Purpose Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive. The department on aging will offer this service by appointment almost every weekday from Feb. 1 through April 8.
Tax assistance will be completed by a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) trained and certified person. Tax preparers will be using the electronic E-filing method.
Volunteers who will help prepare taxes will need two forms of identification from each taxpayer who is receiving tax assistance: one of the forms of identification must be a photo identification (passport, U.S. driver’s license, state identification card, military identification card, etc.). The second identification form can be an original or a copy of one’s social security card, ITIN card or letter, if applicable.
Do not discard the end of year social security statement this indicates the benefits one has received.
Seniors will have the option to have their refunds deposited directly into the bank account of their choice.
Start gathering tax information (tax forms, bank statements, receipts, W2s, etc.) for the upcoming tax season. Please also bring ones 2014 tax return for comparison.
Tax appointments are scheduled first-come, first-serve basis. To schedule an appointment for tax assistance, call 440-279-2130, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Have a Laugh: For the Health of It: Jan. 21, 11 a.m. Presented by Stephanie Yeaglin of Hospice of Western Reserve, the program defines the history of therapeutic humor, identifies the benefits of humor and distinguishes between appropriate and inappropriate uses of humor. Free.
Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP
Feb. 2, 1 p.m.
The Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP 4527 will meet at the Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road.
The program will feature local entertainer Stan Rolf performing a variety of comedy and sing-a-longs.
If the Kenston School system is closed due to the weather, the meeting will also be cancelled. Check local television stations for school closings.
Food and paper products will be collected for the Food For Friends food pantry as well as items for the Geauga County Dog Shelter.

Heart to Heart Dance
Feb. 12, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The students at Chardon High School are holding a dance for senior citizens at Park Auditorium and they invite you to attend. They will have music, dancing, lunch and games. The second graders from Park Elementary School will perform.
The cost is $10, but scholarships are available.
