CHS Students of the Month
Congratulations to 10th-grader Aaron M. and ninth-grader Katie F. on being named the CHS Student of the Month and PBIS Student of the Month for January.
Aaron’s nominating teacher says he’s an extremely hard-working student, an active participant in class who goes above and beyond to help others understand concepts if they have questions.
Katie’s nominating teacher says she works hard, follows directions, is always prepared and helps others. In fact, her work on the fall play earned her the title of “technical assistant/crew superstar.”

Local Business Donates to OSOB
This spring the Cardinal Local School District will once again participate in the One School, One Book reading adventure. Last year, the elementary students took part by reading “The World According to Humphrey.” It was an amazing experience for the students, staff and even the community, as everyone came together to support this common goal of reading the book together. The students loved it and the improvement in their reading skills and class attendance last year proves it.
This year, the One School, One Book program will expand to include students in K-8 and two of the teachers, Mrs. Maxwell and Mrs. Pizzino, have set up DonorsChoose.org pages to help raise money to provide books for the students.
In addition, the district would also like to thank Gary Cox and Great Day Child Care Learning Center for their $500 donation to the One School, One Book program. The money will be used to help purchase books for all of the students participating in this year’s reading adventure.
Key Leader Retreat
Cardinal High School junior Megan T. was recently selected to attend the two-day Key Leader retreat in Ashley, Ohio. According to its website, Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program for today’s young leaders. The event focuses on service leadership and helping others succeed. The event is part of Kiwanis International and the East Geauga Kiwanis Club funded Megan’s stay.
During the retreat, Megan and the other students participated in several activities that focused on developing the five Key Leader Principles of personal integrity, personal growth, respect, building community and pursuit of excellence.
Megan says, “I can take away numerous amount of life skills from this retreat. I learned how to be strong in my values, and to be a better communicator, I must be an active listener. To gain trust, I must first respect others, their belongings and myself. Leading takes achievable goals.”
As varsity cheerleading captain, Megan says she’s gained some great perspective on how to use her new Key Leader skills to take charge and set a better example for her fellow peers.
