Grandparents Day

Timmons Elementary School Grandparents Day is a high point of the year. First-graders invite a grandparent or senior adult to spend the morning back in the classroom. The learning that takes place creates lasting memories for students and grandparents.

KIS Students of the Month

Kenston Intermediate School is pleased to announce its Students of the Month for April. Students selected for Student of the Month were honored with Integrity awards.

They are fourth-graders Owen Bell, Alexis Black, Dominic Blogna, Elizabeth Churchill, Abby Davis, Ellie Lupoli, LA Mighton, Lexi Nero, Matthew Nidy, Marra Parker, Sean Patrick and Ember Reeves; and fifth-graders Francesca Burke, Lily Evans, Sam Flinders, Miles Irvin, Jordyn Ladd, Thomas Lupca, Jack Morey, Thomas O’Brien, Elena Perrine, Nathan Schaedler and Brooke Sell.

Rotary Senior

Tyler Cooper was selected Kenston’s Chagrin Valley Rotary Club Student of the Month for April. He maintains a 4.05 grade point average. Last year, he earned MVP honors in both cross country and track as well as being named a Scholar Athlete. Tyler will graduate magna cum laude with an honors diploma this spring.

As a committed four-year member of the soccer, cross country, indoor track and track teams, Tyler has received numerous honors. He holds the ninth fastest cross country time in school history as well as being a 10 top record holder in three track events. He has competed at the regional level in both cross country and track for three years. As a senior, he was nominated for honorable mention Greater Cleveland Area and first team All Western Reserve Conference.

When Tyler is not busy with soccer or running, he is a member of the Business Club, Math Club, Student Council and National Honor Society. He also co-founded the Culinary Culture Club.

Outside of school, Tyler volunteers at the Geauga Airport helping pilots construct and modify their planes. He also volunteers for Bainbridge Food for Friends, community pancake breakfasts and working on the Kenston Trails.

Tyler plans to attend Mount Union, Cincinnati or Miami University where he plans to study mechanical, electrical or aerospace engineering with a minor in business management or finance.

KHS Students of the Month

Congratulations to Kenston High School Students of the Month.

Selected for special recognition were freshmen Sophia Kusner and Connor Quinlan; sophomores Ernest Manke and Alexandra Weinhofer; juniors Annie Rizzo and Donald Walukas; and seniors Maggie Krause and Brad Toth.

America’s Most Challenging

The Washington Post vetted 22,000 public high schools while compiling its list of America’s Most Challenging High Schools: only 11 percent made the cut. Kenston is part of an elite list, including 39 Ohio schools and 12 from Northeast Ohio.

The Post totaled the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education test taken at each school and divided that number by the number of graduating seniors.

Best High School

U.S. News and World Report 2016 Best High Schools highlighted Kenston as one of the top-performing public schools in Ohio and the country. Kenston received a silver medal. The rankings are based on state assessments in math and English, graduation rates and how well students are prepared for college.

On the Ohio list, Kenston ranked 43rd, with a national ranking of 1,064. The U.S. News rankings include data on more than 21,000 public schools nationwide.
