Second-Grade Pen Pals

Second-graders in Mrs. Misinec’s class have gained new friends after becoming pen pals with another second-grade classroom in Indiana. The project is part of The Great Mail Race a pen pal program that encourages classes to send letters to at least one classroom in each state in the United States to learn about their class and their life. The goal is to learn about all 50 states by the end of the year.

Students in Mrs. Misinec’s class sent their new friends letters about themselves, information about Ohio and Geauga County and a bottle of maple syrup. The Indiana class also mailed letters and sent a box of Orville Redenbacher popcorn since Mr. Redenbacher is from Indiana. The class was invited to the Cardinal Board of Education meeting to discuss the project and share what they learned.

Famous Ohioans Visit CIS

Dozens of famous Ohioans visited Cardinal Intermediate School on May 5 and 6. The visitors were actually fourth-grade students who once again researched famous people from Ohio and then created a poster and presentation on them. Students presented their findings to their teachers and peers and were also set up outside of the school to give presentations to other school staff members and grandparents as they visited the school during Grandparents Day.

Prevention Program Training

Cardinal High School students recently participated in a prevention program training sponsored by the Sandy Hook Promise. The training was held at Headwaters Park in Huntsburg and provided students with information on how to identify, intervene and get help for students who are in a mental health crisis or who appear to be displaying at-risk behavior that could result in them hurting themselves or others.

Juniors Brandon N. and Trent M. and sophomores Anne R. and Marina C. attended the training for Cardinal and plan to implement the ideas and lessons learned with the incoming freshman class as part of the high school’s new freshman mentoring program.

CHS Students of the Month

Congratulations to the April Cardinal High School Student and PBIS Student of the Month: 10th-graders Rafe E. and Sara C.

Rafe’s nominating teacher says his work ethic this semester has improved immensely and his grades are the best they’ve ever been. There’s been a noted positive change in his attitude towards school and his classes, and he’s grown into a true role model for students who strive to be successful.

Sara helps out in the STARS classroom throughout the school day. Her nominating teacher says she even helped calm a student down during the musical – showing her compassion and patience towards others.

Congratulations, Rafe and Sara.
