Feathers and Fleece
On May 19, the Feathers and Fleece 4-H Club met at the Munson Town Hall for its May meeting. The 2016 4-H officers of the club are: Annie, president; Max, vice president; Joseph, secretary; Emily, treasurer; Jessica, news officer; Tim, safety officer; and Sami, recreational officer. Max Wolf and Annie Kinkopf were nominated to represent the club in the 2016 Geauga County Fair king and queen elections.
This year will be the club’s fifth birthday. Members decided to celebrate it by giving something back to the community instead of getting something for themselves, so on May 28, the club officers will be accepting gifts from the members and will then drop them off at Geauga County Rescue Village.
On June 21, sheep, goat and swine members will be required to attend weigh-in, where they will tag and weigh their project animals. The mandatory skillathon where members taking dairy, market or egg projects will be tested on their knowledge and completion of their project is on July 16. This year, the club will have over 50 projects, including turkey, chicken, duck, sheep, rabbits, goats, swine and sewing.
The club has won the award for the most new members for 2016. Members taking turkey, sheep, goat, and swine have already received their project animals. Duck projects will arrive in June and chickens the beginning of July.
The 2016 Geauga County Fair theme is “All things great and small, Geauga has them all.” The Geauga County livestock sale is only 105 days away, so don’t forget to mark the calendar for Sept. 3 and come support Geauga County youth. See you all there. (Submitted by Jessica Burden, news officer)
