Students Create Space Bases
The fourth-graders at Cardinal Intermediate School had an interesting visitor in May – Mr. Anderson from NASA’s Glenn Research Center. Anderson visited with students and gave a presentation on living and working in space. After the presentation, students then used that information, recyclables and other materials such as tape to create their own “space bases.” They did a great job. Thank you, Mr. Anderson, for coming to visit.
Finance Fair
The eighth-graders got a first-hand experience with finance and budgeting thanks to the Real Money, Real World finance program. Sponsored by The Ohio State University, the finance fair works by giving each student a career and salary. Students then visit various stations where they use their income to budget and pay for items like mortgages, cars, groceries, gas and other various real-world expenditures. They keep track of their budget on a worksheet.
CIS Science Night
Cardinal Intermediate School held its first science on May 25, giving students and their families the opportunity to participate in some fun, easy experiments together. Organized by teachers Barb Tropf and Charlotte Torre, students visited 10 stations to visit, each representing a branch of science such as biology, chemistry, physics, meteorology, astronomy and genetics.
“We must say ‘thank-you’ to Flambeau for donating yo-yos for the gift bags; Geauga Parks for donating park maps; Walmart, Subway and Dairy Queen for donating gift cards; and Home Depot for donating supplies used in the experiments,” says Torre. “Your contributions helped to make this event a success!”
Fourth-Grade Graduation
It was another rite of passage for students in the Cardinal School District. On June 1, students in fourth-grade officially “graduated” from the intermediate school. A special ceremony was held where students and their academic achievements for the fourth quarter were acknowledged and recognized.
After a tearful speech from Principal Bearer, students received a standing ovation from their families and teachers as they walked out of CIS for the final time. Congratulations, class of 2024 everyone knows the students will be wonderful as fifth-graders in the middle school next year.
