Local 4-H groups across Geauga County are stepping up to help the hungry by collecting nonperishable food items and toiletries now through Aug. 15 to benefit seven food pantries run by the Geauga County Hunger Task Force.

Needed items include: canned meats (tuna and chicken), canned and boxed meals (soup, chili, stews, macaroni and cheese), canned fruits and vegetable, peanut butter, cereal, powdered baby formula, pasta, rice, diapers, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo and bathroom tissue.

Community members who want to donate can contact any Geauga County 4-H member or call 440-285-2020 ext. 303 to schedule a pickup.

Dr. Augustine Kellis, of Kellis Eye Center, has offered to match all donations that 4-H collects during the drive, up to $20,000.
