Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP Chapter 4527 will meet at the Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road. The program features Eric Noltkamper, a local accordionist who has performed all over Ohio and Pennsylvania.

After the performance, there will be a brief meeting and information to learn about the upcoming trip to Greektown Casino in Detroit on Aug. 24 for a cost of $32, with a $20 casino bonus. For reservations, call Skip Ference at 440-338-3607 or sign up at the travel table.

School supplies will be collected for the food pantry as well as donations of dog food, towels, detergents and hot dogs for the Geauga County Dog Shelter. Monetary donations for both are also needed.

Sign Language Class

Aug. 3, 10 and 31, 12:45-2:15 p.m.

Learn the basics of American Sign Language, including the ASL alphabet, numbers, finger spelling, gestures and grammar, at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive. Seniors must be registered to participate in the free class.

Diabetes Self Management Class

The Geauga County Department on Aging will offer a diabetes self management class Mondays, Aug. 15, 22 and 29, and Sept 12, 19 and 26, from 1-3:30 p.m., at the West Geauga Senior Center, 12646 West Geauga Plaza, Chester Township.

Seniors dealing with diabetes or helping their spouses deal with diabetes will get the support they need, find practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue, sugar control, discover better nutrition and exercise choices, understand new treatment choices and learn better ways to talk with their doctor and family about their health. Physicians, diabetes educators, dietitians and other health professionals both at Stanford University and in the community have reviewed all materials in the workshop.

Each participant will receive a copy of the companion book, “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, 4th Edition,” and an audio relaxation tape. Set weekly goals and make a step-by-step plan to improve one’s health.

Cost is $15 per person; scholarships are available.
