Geauga Memory Caf
Sept. 17, 10 a.m. to noon
The Geauga Memory Caf presents the Carnival of the Senses for those with dementia and their caregivers at Geauga County Department on Aging, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon. Both will be able to visit carnival booths to experience and learn more about various treatment modalities, such as aroma therapy, art therapy, pet therapy and music therapy.
The Geauga Memory Caf creates quarterly themed recreation and networking opportunities for individuals and their care partners. Space is limited. RSVP to Vicki at 440-279-2149 by Sept. 13.
Murder Mystery Dinner
Sept. 23, 4:30-8 p.m.
A murder mystery dinner by Floriano Productions will take place at the Chagrin Falls Senior Center, 7060 Woodland Ave in Bainbridge. Chagrin Falls’ Mary Goodgame will cater dinner at 5 p.m. Enjoy the cabaret styling’s of Paul Floriano throughout the evening. Prizes will be awarded to the teams who can correctly guess “whodunnit.”
Cost is $25 for Geauga County seniors and $30 for out-of-county guests. Geauga seniors have priority until Sept. 9. Deadline is Sept. 16, or until full. Mail a registration form and check made payable to: Geauga County Department on Aging, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon, OH 44024.
Matter of Balance Class
University Hospitals Geauga Medical Campus, Hospice of the Western Reserve and Geauga Department on Aging are leading Matter of Balance classes to Geauga seniors interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength and in preventing falls.
The classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays, Aug. 31 to Sept. 28, from 1-3 p.m. at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive. Seniors will learn to manage concerns about falls as well as set realistic goals for staying active, learn how to stay safe at home, complete exercises to increase strength and balance and learn how to identify and control the fear of falling.

Estate Planning
Sept. 6, 10:30 a.m.
Financial advisor Steve Mrozek, of Edward Jones, will present “Script Your Family’s Future: Why You Need an Estate Plan” at Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive. Learn strategies on distributing assets to family members, caring for minor or special needs children and determining who will make medical or financial decisions if unable to make them oneself.
Following the presentation, Mrozek and attorney Amy L Papesh, of Elk & Elk, who specializes in probate, estate planning and guardianships, will be available to answer questions. To attend, call Christine at 440-279-2131 by Sept. 2.
Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP
Sept. 6, 1 p.m.
The Bainbridge/Chagrin AARP 4527 will meet for its annual hot dog and chips lunch at the Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road. Cost is $3. Call Betty Scholz at 440-338-8321 for reservations.
Lunch will be followed by a brief meeting and information about club activities.
The last trip of the season is to Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Oct. 26. Cost is $30, with a $20 casino bonus. The group will stop for breakfast on the way there but travel straight home on way back. Sign up at the travel table or call Skip Ference, 440-338-3607.
School supplies and food staples will be collected for the food pantry as well as donations of dog food, hot dogs, blankets and towels for the Geauga County Dog Shelter. Healthy Living for Brain & Body
Sept. 14, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Alzheimer’s Association, Cleveland Area Chapter, Sound Inspirations Music Therapy LLC, and Tridia Hospice will present Healthy Living for Your Brain & Body at the West Geauga Senior Center, 12646 West Geauga Plaza Unit 4, in Chester Township.
Science is now able to provide insights into how to optimize physical and cognitive health as seniors age. Join to learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement. Lunch will be provided by Tridia Hospice.

Russell Township Senior Trash Pickup
Sept. 21 and 22
In order to be placed on the cleanup list, one must first be registered with the Geauga County Department on Aging, be 60 years of age or older and live in Russell Township.
As a special service to senior residents, Russell Township and the Department on Aging will pick up refuse from the seniors who need assistance. Have items ready to be moved out the evening before the pickup. Do not leave items curbside.
No liquids, paints, antifreeze or motor oil, hazardous materials, plastic-coated wire, construction debris, rocks, yard waste, tree trunks or household garbage will be accepted.
Metal items, appliances, televisions and electronic equipment will be accepted. Mattresses must be wrapped in plastic and taped securely. Only 10 household items per home and the trash should be from the registered senior’s household only.
No tires will be picked up, as Russell will have a separate tire pickup in August. Smaller materials should be consolidated in strong boxes and kept dry (tarped) if possible.
