Geauga Credit Union Savings Program
Munson Elementary School is excited to be participating in a banking program with Geauga Credit Union that focuses on grades K-5 that lets any child under the age of 18 open a savings account that earns interest immediately and is free of service fees.
An employee of Geauga Credit Union will come to Munson twice a month to collect deposits. The credit union will mail receipts to each student who made a deposit and include incentives, tips on saving or prizes.
At the end of the year, the school will provide certificates to all students who participated. Look for more information next week coming home with students. For more information, call the Geauga Credit Union at 440-834-4327.
Student Leadership Symposium
Chardon High School recently hosted a leadership symposium with more than 140 students and 12 staff members participating. Students predominantly led the all-day interactive symposium with many adults mentoring the students within their clubs, activities, sports and societal leadership positions.
The students participated in team-building activities, learned lifelong skills and heard a powerful testimony of strength and perseverance from gold medalist Dominique Moceanu. Furthermore, many adult leaders gave mini lessons on leadership and the students collaborated in large and small groups. It was certainly a transformative day. Special thanks go to longtime community partner Chardon Methodist Church for hosting the event for the high school.
District Releases Quality Profile
On Sept. 12, Chardon Local Schools, along with approximately 70 other school districts throughout Ohio, released a more comprehensive, community-oriented companion to the state’s School District Report Card. Called a “Quality Profile,” the report includes additional accountability measures that define a high quality education that are not included in the state’s report.
The Quality Profile helps to evaluate the effectiveness of a school district beyond standardized testing and other statistical measures. The profile is based on six categories: academics, arts, student leadership and activities, fiscal stewardship, parent and community involvement, and student services.
The district’s 2016 profile can be viewed on the homepage of the district website at www.chardonschools.org.
