Naviance Program
This year, Chardon Middle School is initiating a new program in the counseling department designed to help students begin to navigate and track their career and college pathways. Naviance is a comprehensive K-12 college and career readiness solution that helps districts and schools align student strengths and interests to post-secondary goals, improving student outcomes and connecting learning to life.
Students will be using the new program consistently throughout their years at the middle and high schools to explore vocational options, set goals, search colleges, track progress and to help connect them with resources that will help them to succeed.
Sixth-graders will focus on logging into the system, start to build their profiles by completing the CareerKey and complete a brief student survey. Seventh-graders will log into the system, start to explore different types of careers when they take the Career Cluster Finder, save clusters of careers so they can investigate various career pathways and complete a brief student survey.
Eighth-graders will log into the system and focus primarily on narrowing down career path options by using data from the CareerKey and Cluster Finder to help with scheduling high school classes. They will also start to build a resume so they can maintain records of all their extracurricular activities and achievements throughout high school.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences for Chardon’s elementary schools are Oct. 26 from 5-8 p.m. and Nov. 1 from 5-8 p.m. Be sure to call one’s child’s school secretary to schedule an appointment time.
Get ready for the conference by making a list of the questions to ask. A prepared parent with a positive attitude and an open mind is on the right track for creating a successful, yearlong partnership with his/her child’s teacher.
Hat and Scarf Fundraiser
The Chardon Middle School seventh-grade class is conducting a winter scarf and hat fundraiser to raise money for its various field trips this year. They are selling great looking, custom made Chardon Hilltoppers knit hats and scarves.
Hats cost $20 each and scarves cost $25. Purchase them as a pair and get them both for $40.
They are excited to offer Chardon families and supporters a product that will keep them warm during those cold Chardon winters. They make great holiday gifts so place orders now. Download an order form on the middle school homepage. Purchases can be paid for by cash, check or PaySchools. Make checks payable to “Chardon Board of Education.”
Merchandise will take three to four weeks after the close of orders.
NEOEA Day
There is no school for Chardon students on Oct. 14 for NEOEA Day.

Students in Melissa Enfantis’s class at Park School wake up their brain by playing a lively game of SET. The object of the game is to be the first to find a SET of three cards where each feature is either all the same or all different on each card. SET builds cognitive, logical and spatial reasoning skills.

Indoor recess due to rain is no problem at Hambden School. Students get to play “Go Noodle” in their classrooms, which gets kids moving with short interactive video activities. The desk-side movements helps the kids achieve more by keeping them engaged and motivated throughout the day.

Students in Nikki Diehm’s social studies class at Chardon Middle School enjoyed reviewing their chapter studies with a “Choose Your Own Adventure” project. Students designed board games, recorded videos and created presentations to demonstrate their command of the subject matter.
