First-Grade Science Lab

Living or non-living – that was the question first-graders in Mrs. Horvath’s class at Jordak Elementary School had to answer during a recent science lab with district science consultant Claire Zurbuch. Students visited several stations to study a frog, gravel, a tadpole, a screwdriver, mealworms, a book, crickets, paper, a flower, a pencil, sod, a battery, a nut, a coin, the teacher, a motor, algae, water, moss and a spoon – and had to determine if each thing was alive or not. Mr. Z gave them the tip that if the item could reproduce and needed water, it likely was alive. Students had a great time visiting each station and learning more about living and non-living things

Veteran Visits Third-Graders

Students in Mrs. Cardinal’s class at CIS had a special visitor for Veterans Day. Jacob Clark came to speak to the class about his service in the U.S. Army. He talked to students about how the Army’s core values apply to their everyday lives as well. Students all lined up to give him a high-five after his presentation. Mr. Clark also listened to the students give presentations on veterans in their families. Thank you for coming, Mr. Clark and thank you for your service.
