TES Zoo Crew
Timmons Elementary School third-graders who work hard and show great effort were named to the Zoo Crew. Members of the Zoo Crew are rewarded with goofy and crazy games and activities before school each week for eight weeks.
Congratulations to the second quarter Zoo Crew members: Samantha Bakar, Lauren Bayus, Cal Buchanan, Donovan Carney, Caitlin Cooley, Shannon Feldman, Grace Gettig, Carson Hyps, Anthony Jordan, Alexis Kosiorek, Logan Linsz, Zoe Maloney, John Pustai, Lily Rieger, Jacob Smith, Raegan Timmons and Sierra Zoes.
KMS Students of the Quarter
Kenston Middle School recognizes students that have excelled in health, physical education, foreign language, technology education, art and music during the second quarter. They are sixth-graders Morgan Blackford and Lucas Simmons; seventh-graders Sophia Mighton and Matthew Pierce; and eighth-graders Margaret Eibler and John McClure.
Rotary Senior
Evan Frank was selected Kenston’s Chagrin Valley Rotary Club Student of the Month for January. He maintains a 4.269 grade point average. He has earned Academic Departmental Awards in AP US History, Web Design and Honors English III. He has earned varsity letters for academics, Science Olympiad and drama. By May, he will have completed nine AP courses.
Active in Science Olympiad since middle school, Evan has competed at the state level since seventh grade. As a senior, he serves as team co-captain. As a member of Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society, he has participated in competitions and tutored students. He is a member of the Math Club, PACK (Political Action Committee of Kenston) and National Honor Society and serves as the assistant stage manager for Kenston Center Stage. As a freshman, Evan traveled west with the science department’s Kenston Field Experience, studying the geology of the national parks.
Outside of school, Evan is active in his Boy Scout Troop, serving as senior patrol leader. He has also earned his 200-hour yoga teacher certification through Yoga Alliance. Evan interns with CoverMyMeds in the Enterprise Systems Group.
He plans to major in physics and potentially economics at Davidson College in North Carolina.

Thank you to Kenston board members for the countless hours and immeasurable energy that they have spent to assure that the schools are providing the best education possible for the children of the community.
At the organizational meeting of the Kenston Board of Education, Dr. Beth Krause was elected president and Mrs. Beth Ward was named vice president for 2017. Board members are Mrs. Neysa Gaskins, Mr. Tom Manning and Mr. William Timmons.
Board of education regular meetings are generally held the third Monday of the month in the Timmons Elementary School multi-purpose room. The meetings begin at 7 p.m. The board has added work sessions to the calendar on the first Monday of most months.

KMS Presents The Sound of Music
The cast of “The Sound of Music” (Getting to Know version) invites the community to join them for an evening or afternoon of musical theater entertainment. Performances will be Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. and January 28 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Robert A. Lee Auditorium at Kenston High School. Admission is $10 a seat. Tickets are available at the door.
Speech and Debate
Kenston High School Speech and Debate team placed seventh at Hathaway Brown’s Dec. 17 tournament. Special congratulations to Jessica Sunderhaft, who was the tournament champion in Program Oral Interpretation and became Kenston’s third state qualifier. In Informative Speaking, Anna Soryal placed second, Morgan Spehar placed fifth and Nick Vitello placed sixth. Onur Kardzhala placed fifth in Congressional Debate.
Kenston Middle School’s Speech and Debate Team traveled with the high school team to Vermilion on Dec. 10 and Hathaway Brown on Dec. 17.
At Vermilion, placing first were the team of Jason Spehar and Adler Weber in Duo Interpretation and Alexander Prodan in United States Extemporaneous Speaking. Placing second were Johnny Martino in Congressional Debate, the team of Samantha Henrikson and Zhen Henrikson in Duo Interpretation and Ryann Greulich in United States Extemporaneous Speaking. The Public Forum Debate team of Okan Kardzhala and Marcus Novak placed fourth.
At Hathaway Brown, out of 25 teams competing in Public Forum Debate, partners Henry Cregar and Brennan Fisher went undefeated and were the tournament champions. Also going undefeated and placing fourth in Public Forum Debate were partners Okan Kardzhala and Marcus Novak. In United States Extemporaneous Speaking, Alexander Prodan placed fourth, Zhen Henrikson placed fifth and Ryann Greulich placed sixth. Competing in her first tournament, Dylan Britton placed fifth in Declamation.
Renew Blue
In response to the Food Service Survey taken by over 300 parents last May, the high school has fully eliminated the use of Styrofoam in the cafeteria. Foam trays have been replaced by paper boats, as well as foam soup cups to paper cups. Currently, food service is working to find affordable alternatives at the other schools, with the transition of the middle school to all paper by year’s end.
Incoming Parent Meeting
Information Night for incoming kindergarten parents will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at Timmons Elementary School for children entering kindergarten in August. Children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30.
Registration packets must be picked up at this time. Kindergarten registration packets are different from those posted online.
Kindergarten registration will be held March 6 from 8-11 a.m. and 4:30-7 p.m. at Timmons Elementary School. Please bring the completed packet and support documentation for copying and a calendar to registration to schedule kindergarten screening.
