Solo and Ensemble Contest
Congratulations to the Kenston High School vocalists and instrumentalists who participated in the Ohio Music Education Association District 7 Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event held at Mayfield High School on Jan. 21.
Receiving Superior (1) ratings were: Erica Belfi, flute trio; Samara Benza, woodwind trio; Mia Bester, vocal solo; Olivia Como, vocal solo; Kayleigh Fisher, flute solo; Meg Hiser, flute trio; Nik Hunder, Bb clarinet solo; Annika Markoff, flute solo; Erin Mast, flute solo; Erin Mast, flute trio; Colin Montville, piano solo; Catie Mozingo, flute solo; Catie Mozingo, woodwind trio; Georgeanna Oxford, vocal solo; Katie Smith, Bb clarinet solo; Anna Soryal, flute solo; Morgan Spehar, alto saxophone solo; Lauren Thomas, woodwind trio; and Emily Wood, vocal solo.
Earning an Excellent (II) rating were: Sammy Cohen, trumpet solo; Chad Harris, vocal solo; Nik Hunder, alto clarinet solo; Jack McDonough, vocal solo; and Anna Snyder, vocal solo.
Janus
The Kenston High School literary magazine, “Janus,” was honored with a rank of “Superior” in the 2016 National College of Teachers of English Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines. Over 330 schools entered the 2016 program and only 10 schools from Ohio received recognition, with Kenston receiving the highest honor.
Student editors of the 2016 edition were Erica Belfi, T.J. Daunch, Rachel Fabyan, Kate Giebner, Jake Gratto, Aya Henry, Alyssa Kassouf, Erin Mast, Katharine Morey, Andrea Rengers, Hannah Richardson and Katie Smith. Mr. Tony Marchesi was the faculty advisor.
Speech and Debate
Kenston’s Speech and Debate team competed at Berea-Midpark High School against 29 other schools. Congratulations to junior Kim Voudris for placing sixth in Informative Speaking.
College Credit Plus Program
The College Credit Plus Program (formerly Postsecondary Enrollment Options) allows eligible students in grades 7-12 to take a college course and earn high school and college credit that appears on both their high school and college transcripts. Students must meet eligibility requirements set forth by the college or university to participate.
Students and parents interested in participating in the program for the 2017-18 school year must attend the College Credit Plus night at Kenston High School, Robert A. Lee Auditorium on Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.
Representatives from area colleges and universities will be available to answer questions. Specific details on the program will be progressively added to the guidance website and in the high school guidance office as they become available.
Incoming Kindergarten Parent Meeting
Information night for incoming kindergarten parents will be held Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. at Timmons Elementary School for children entering kindergarten in August. Children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30.
Registration packets must be picked up at this time. Kindergarten registration packets are different from those posted online.
Kindergarten registration will be held on March 6 from 8-11 a.m. and 4:30-7 p.m. at Timmons Elementary School. Please bring the completed packet, support documentation for copying and a calendar to registration.
